just got out of a big jam in the 7th.
just got out of a big jam in the 7th.
4-0
Last time in MLB to lose a game, which is one of those stats that likely will finish this season so obscure that Ironman will use it as a trivia question next year...and I won't get it.
Oh well, time to revise the prediction again. From 73-89 to 162-0 to 138-24!
Which will change back to 73-89 after the series with the Reds. I mean, with Billy batting under .100 right now, he'll do even better than usual against the Pirates, probably going 14-15 over four games with 5 doubles, 13 steals and 14 runs scored, since he hits Pittsburgh better than any other team in his life (including high school and the minors).
Three of four from the Reds to improve to 7-2. Going from preseason predictions, they haven't played anyone good yet, but still, an encouraging start. Taillon looked great today and the offense has been pretty solid. Bullpen looks shaky as hell, though, which is bad, as I don't know how many of their starters are going to go late in games with any consistency. Taillon was great today, but he'll need to do it more than just once before I start thinking he's going to break out and be an effective innings eater.
Impressive start. Congrats.
Tied 1-1 with the Cubs midway through the second inning. FUN FACT: This game was supposed to be yesterday's game, but snow postponed it until day. It also is the Cubs' home opener, as they were the only team to not have a home series before this week, apparently opening their season with three straight road series.
Make that 2-1 Cubs, as Nova seems determined to show that his early Pittsburgh success was a weird-ass fluke.
Now, to 2-2 on a Bell RBI double, as I continue to mail it in, both at work and at giving updates in the more bored-sounding typing possible.
Ooooohhh....nice! A two-run double by Dickerson to give the team a 4-2 lead, as I start to wake up, either from excitement or because the damn office idiot's son has come in and out of the building a couple times, letting some fairly cool/cold air in. Seriously, fuck that cunt and her entire family.
Marte with a solo bomb to make it 5-2, causing my ESPN screen to come alive with simulated fireworks all throughout the Gamecast page. Nice touch, guys. Doesn't make up for all your moronic talking heads cluttering the airwaves, but nice touch regardless!

Gotta take up the Darby mantle of incessant baseball posting from time to time to take a bit of the pressure off you!
And Cervalli just blasted a three-run homer to make it 8-2. Might not have to say too much more. Can't think of a team whose home opener I'd rather spoil than the Cubs! Good day, assuming they don't find a way to choke it away in the final three innings!
Yep ............6 outs to go.
Cubs took some shade for canceling yesterday while the White Sox played their game ......wimps
Sister Jean had a good run, but now has lost two in a row -- Loyola's Final Four game and today, when she tossed the first pitch for the losing Cubs team. 'Tis a shame how quickly one can fall from the penthouse to the cellar.
Pirates off to an 8-2 start and you have a "new" closer as well.
World Series team clearly

Bucs Dugout says: Vázquez is the surname of his sister, with whom he appears to be very close.
Which really doesn't explain things, but yeah.
Solo-homer-friendly day in Chicago. Cubs have one, Pirates have three (two by Polanco) in taking a 3-1 lead in the top of the seventh.
Combo-breaker, as Cervelli cracked a three-run homer to make it 6-1. Getting 2/3 on the road against the Chubs would be a nice series win. With the way the bullpen has been, I'm not going to get my hopes up until it's over, but yeah, lookin' good!
NOT SO FUN FACT: Gerrit Cole became the second pitcher in MLB history (Nolan Ryan being the first) to strike out 11+ batters in each of his first three starts in a season.
A reallly enjoyable thing to keep in mind while reflecting upon Chad Kuhl's less-than-tolerable outing last night in getting beat by a really shitty team run by penny-pinchers.
Don't look now: 11 - 4 start
Avoided being swept by Colorado due to scoring 10 runs today. If they'd used up a few of those last night, Trevor Williams would be 4-0 instead of 3-1. Still, 12-6 and still leading the division is pretty cool.
Getting completely dominated by Jake Arrieta. Well, that sure brings back memories. Damnit...
Good win today, 1-0 on a Dickerson walk-off home run after eight strong innings by Nova and one that Felipe survived somehow.
5-of-6 from shitty Detroit this year is a positive. If they can continue to beat the shitty teams, they should at least stay in something resembling contention for a good while this season.
