I'm far from a stat "geek" but the overall stats do show that bunting isn't a good idea in those situations.

...and for the umpteenth time, bunting IS a good idea in certain situations..period. Early in the game? hell no. Late innings (8th or later) tied or down a run? hell yes

If it's a suicide squeeze that wins the game, I'm all for it but to bunt a guy over from 2nd with one out? Nah...

My "certain situations" (which I've recounted too many times on here) are man on first, no outs, and tied or down a run in the 8th inning or later...why in the fuck would you bunt a guy to third with one out when he's already in scoring position anyway?

God no. That is one of the worst decisions possible, and Tribe does it all the time. The only time it’s acceptable is down a run at home/tied home or road m man on 2nd, no outs bunting to third with top or middle of order up. Period.

And even in that case the manager needs to use discretion by looking at who is batting after the person bunting. If that hitter K's a lot, still don't think you do it.

ABSOLUTELY NOT...the bunt is used to move a runner into scoring position. Period. A runner at second is already in scoring position. Period. If you want to move him to third with nobody out, that's also acceptable, but to say it's the only time is ludicrous--and not very strategic.

Yep, let’s ignore the data behind years and years of research. Literally telling you how often it works out vs not bunting. You score less runs by bunting 1st to 2nd. You’re chances of scoring even 1 run go down by doing so. It’s such a dumb play I don’t know why anyone still does it (of course, only Tito does). Even Hammy, who is as old school as it gets, admitted the other day bunting 1st to 2nd is not a smart play and called Tito out on air (in a polite way)

Dave Roberts does it a good bit with his pitchers

Well I’d bunt with 2 out and nobody on if I had that staff.

Well, with a pitcher, it's a different story, as the majority of them bat between .050 and .150. With the odds that against getting a hit, you'd take an out that advances a runner, as the alternatives are far more likely to be a K or grounder that potentially leads to a double play. If you're talking a competent hitter, though, I'd be against the bunt in about every condition that doesn't involve the guy at the plate having elite enough speed that a good slap down the third base line could easily be a bunt single.
