With the passing of Vin Scully I got to thinking of people that are basically beloved by everyone.

What current or former athletes, managers, announcers, owners etc are on Scully’s level?

Other famous people outside of sports….who is up there with Vin?

Tony Gwynn

Bob Uecker

Yogi Berra

Athletes are tough because if they are on a rival team those fans may not have the respect everyone else does.

As they get way up in age they become more beloved it seems. Betty White? I know the Golden Girls didn’t all get along to great.

Craig Sager and Doris Burke are good ones.

As far as players, maybe Giannis. He seems liked and respected by everyone.

Yeah….Giannis about 7 years in the limelight but he’s in that Tony Gwynn level.

Sager good too.

Michael Phelps might be one but people forget about him except for three weeks every four years.

I don’t think he is quite on the level….I think many in the sport don’t care for him. I’d put him behind Peyton Manning

I'm not a Reds fan but I don't know how you can't like Joey Votto. Also include Miggy Cabrera. Two of the biggest pranksters in MLB. Just don't like when they're abusing your team.

Tiger recently, but when he was in his prime, lots of people hated him because he was on top.

Votto has a lot of great to him but a number don’t care for him. He’s a good dude, odd but a great guy overall. He’s worth mentioning as is Miggy.

Davey Concepcion, Roberto Clemente probably some mentions here too.

Willie Mays…but sadly a lot probably didn’t like him back in his day because of their ignorant views on black people.

I'm Cleveland fan, so I'm not going to mention Cleveland players, but two all-time greats who seem beloved by all are cal ripken Jr and Barry Larkin.

You should hear the Reds fans from age 25-35 growl about Larkin as an announcer
