Pretty simple formula going forward.

Cancel all road non-conference games.

Schedule an FCS school in November.

Get B1G in a partnership with ESPN.

Or don't get beat by 31 by a 5 loss team.

The composite Massey Ratings has Memphis higher than LSU, so undefeated UCF has two wins better than Alabama

Oklahoma wins out and OSU has a gripe

Ridiculous that 3 loss Auburn is still top 8

Just a year with three clear-cut playoff teams and a handful of flawed contenders for the fourth spot.

OSU lost by 31 to a mediocre team and had two losses.

Alabama only had one loss, but OSU had three wins superior to anything they did and their one loss was to a 3-loss team that got waxed yesterday.

Wisconsin had one loss, but it was to OSU in the championship game and their overall schedule, both in and out of conference, wasn't anything noteworthy.

UCF was unbeaten, but don't play in a power conference, so the commitee simply pretended they didn't exist.

OSU only has themselves to blame.

Cotton Bowl for OSU against USC.

I wasn't thinking about how often we have been in the Fiesta.  They clearly wanted to switch that up which I don't mind.  Dissapointing to not be in the final 4, but a matchup with USC is definitely something to look forward to!

They should turn it down.

A few things:

1. OSU has nobody to blame but themselves for being left out. The 31pt loss at Iowa is inexcusable.

2. JT Barrett wasn't 100% yesterday and everyone knew it. If JT were 100%, OSU probably would've blown them out. In that case, I think OSU would've made the playoff.

That being said --

The playoff committee got it wrong. On paper, Alabama did nothing on the field to deserve their high ranking all year-- they simply got benefit of the doubt for perennially being a top team. On any other year, they'd normally face a quality SEC schedule and get excused for dropping a game. This year, the SEC wasn't particularly great and Alabama lost to the only quality team on their schedule. Even then, that team they lost to went on to lose the following week, making that loss even worse. The committee threw caution to the wind, let ballooned stats against subpar competition cloud their judgement, and put the wrong team in.

On one hand, Clemson doesn't look beatable so I'm glad OSU got left out. On the other hand, the CFP committee is just making shit up as they go, which will make everyone question their decision making process for years to come.

Glad the Rose Bowl has Oklahoma v Georgia, no desire to watch the Sugar Bowl, I'll go to bed early.

Citrus bowl is an awful match up for rooting interest.

I hate myself for saying this, but I want Oklahoma (fuck Baker Mayfield) and Georgia (fuck SEC) in the championship.  Want Georgia on top.

Can't happen though.

It will be Clemson and Oklahoma, I think.

They didn't lose to a 7-5 team by 31.  End of story.  Same reason PSU couldn't get in over OSU last year.

Yeah but at least the B1G was represented.  Yeah, it’s a little bit of karma for OSU, but the committee was wrong last year putting them in ahead of a conference champion,, and they didn’t learn anything from that.  This year they just compound the problem by leaving two power five conference champions out of the mix. Somebody please explain to me how you can be a national champion when you can’t even win your own conference? ( that is a rhetorical question).

This system is the same shit as the BCS, and only marginally better. It was supposed to make sure that the national championship is decided on the field… But you still have the committee ( And all of the inherent built-in bias along with it)deciding who’s playing for it .

Whether its a computer programmed by humans, or a committee, there will always be disputes between the last in and first out.  The decision now between 4/5 is much better then when it was between 2/3.  I'll be happy when that contentious decision is between 8/9.

Im late to this party but Im with others. That 4th spot was close and really OSU or Bama didn't deserve it. I probably would have put OSU in just because they won their conference championship.

I think OU beats Clemson in the Championship game.

Also Dan Wenzel had what I felt was a pretty good article about expanding the playoffs to 8 teams and doing away with conference championship games. Ironically in his scenario OSU was still left out of the playoff.

His scenario is a flat out disaster.

He added UCF as 8...sure, whatever.

He said he was using the Nov 28 rankings. You know, the one from last Tuesday. He has USC as 7. USC was 10th. OSU was 8 and Miami was 7.

I definitely support expansion, and also support higher seeds getting a first round home game, but I don’t think conference championships need to be elminated. That should be left up to the conference. I think it makes more sense to cut the regular season back to 11 games.

A 3 round playoff could start 3 weekends from now and still end the season at the same time.

Disagree, I think it should be a requirement.

And it's weird. I'd noticed that he replied on Twitter that Wisconsin gets his bid in the final 8 over OSU because they won their conference championship (due to lack of conference championship games in his scenario).

Which is all good except for the minor detail that, with 14 teams in a conference, you have unbalanced schedules and Wisconsin definitely benefited from one of those, since they didn't play OSU, PSU or MSU (the three top teams in the other division) in the regular season, while playing in the weaker division.
