Fast-forward to your retirement years and assume all of your retirement planning has gone well. You're able to retire as you see fit. What does your ideal retirement look like? How old are you? Are you staying at your current residence or moving? What will you be doing for enjoyment?

We plan to sell our current place and buy a couple of small places, one in the mountains in a small town in the Asheville area. We would try to rent it by the week or weekend enough to pay the bills. We also plan to buy a place in Ohio near where I grew up (Auglaize/Mercer county). Biggest plans are loading up the dogs and taking some extended road trips with the camper.

Plan on hanging up work at 65, about 2.5 years from now.

Ideally I would keep our home in Ohio and get a place in the Carolina’s – coastal – and a nice fishing boat.

Downsize the house to a smaller one but improve the quality and location.  

Smaller house, pool, maybe a hunting property.

Spend the winters south.

Assuming I only have one kid and grandparents help with college tuition, I'm on track to retire by 50/55. If social security goes belly up, might be a bit longer.

Ideal plan is to sell our home in Oakland and move to somewhere with a LCOL like Oregon. My ideal retirement will involve a lot of cycling and hiking; pretty much my two favorite things to do. Wouldn't mind getting more into cooking as well, I just don't have the time now.

Ideally be retired by 55 from a real job (Lofty goal, hopefully kids get scholarships). Stay in the Carolinas, maybe downsize but pay more to have easier water access  whether it be lake or ocean. Wife still working for insurance purposes. Find something that makes some sort of income but is flexible with hours that is enjoyable. Need to find some hobbies though, fishing or golf maybe.

Can't say that I look forward to retirement. I really enjoy what I do (soccer) and cannot imagine stepping away full-time. I'm sure that will change down the road when there's grandkids or whatnot. But, I have no hobbies outside of my career.

I would enjoy going abroad for a bit. Mainly for my career and experience.

My goal is 59.5. We'll see if i can do it or not. Other than not having someone tell me what to do every day,I don't really have any long term retirement goals. 

I can and should retire but I'm enjoying what I do, feeling good, no pressure.  No debt (one car payment) 

In one year my wife will retire and I will start to slow down my work schedule ..... we will down size the property, home and possessions.

Do more travel at a slow pace and enjoy the time we have together. Bullshit in the next few months I'm starting a non profit organisation and plan on wife and I travel the world promoting this passion and cause..

Move into our family's house on Buckeye Lake.  Fish a lot.  Employ people to run my marketing business.  Maybe get a boat.

I know this doesn't sound "ideal," but life is too loud.  I want a quiet, low-key retirement with little in the way of restrictions.

Travel - That's all I want to do is, travel.  It is the main thing that I will encourage my children to do as they set off on their own, b/c I was not smart enough to do it.  We're headed to Costa Rica as a family in March, and we're sending our 14 year old with the school trip to France, Italy, Spain in June.

Basically, I want to release and cut all leashes.

I'd like to do a little traveling. But mainly I think probably a small veggie garden/flower gardens. And being lazy. 

I've already got plans to sign over the farm to a family member because I really don't want the responsibility of it all. Once my current horses are gone, that's it, no more. My neighbors will keep the fields in check by getting the hay after that. I don't want to take care of a big ass house that's really too big for one person anyway and my mother won't be around forever. My dude and I have talked hypotheticals about if we take the next step to just build small.

So taking naps whenever I want to, reading, gardening, some travel.

Hard to say....I've pushed back my retirement age.  Hopefully 55, but could "semi-retire" earlier if I would do 1-2 consulting gigs for 4-5 months a year.  That might be a preferable route instead of trying to completely retire at an arbitrary age and sweating if I have enough savings to weather a market downturn.

Yes, in Ohio.  I'll discover options at 30 years.  I just know that I can't even think of retirement until 30 years.

Once my current horses are gone, that's it, no more.

I did not know you had horses too. 

I hope to no longer have horses in retirement.  I hope to no longer have horses well before retirement. 

I have two left and one is no longer ridden, she's old and deserves to be lazy. I still ride the younger one, just went for a ride today, actually.

We used to have a full working farm when I was very little, but it's been in the process of dismantling for many years and the horses are the only outside animals left.

Don’t know when it will be, but travel the world. In some instances, again. I’m well travelled already, but so much more to see and so many places I want to go back to.

That and, god willing, spend a ton of time with grandkids. 

Ideally:

lake house in either Coeur d'Alene or Kalispell. hunting and fishing

Realistically:

lake house about halfway between my kids/grandkids locations.

My family says I am semi retired now with my schedule but yet it seems I am busier now then ever.Kids are gone Have already downsized home no major debt .I will probably always do something sales or volunteer with kids sports or something. .I enjoy interacting with people. I have had my fair share of toys in the past been there done that kind of thing.

Live somewhere near the ocean here in Alabama or Florida.  Find a part-time job like teaching or consulting, do some sort of service work and stay very busy.  The older I get, the more obvious it is that people who do not remain active (physically and mentally) decline MUCH faster than those that do.
