i would 100% give to immediate family, not sure about extended family, slim chance I would give a kidney for a stranger. 

A penguins fan a few years ago gave a kidney to someone he saw holding up a sign at a pens game. He s hero for sure 

100% yes for family or friends. I'd probably donate to save a stranger's life.

I haven't spoken to my father in 23 years, and really have no desire to at this point, but I'd donate a kidney to save his life. 

I'm happy to give all my organs away when I pass, and I would donate bone marrow to any random stranger for transplant, but I don't think I can do a kidney. So many people die in old age from kidney-related problems. I don't think I would be able to take the risk that my remaining kidney could someday take a hit.

I was surprised to read that there isn't a ton of risks to living life with one kidney. But I wouldn't donate to a stranger. What if your spouse, parent, child, etc. needed one later in life? Whoops, you already gave your spare one away.

Hmm, well, that does give you something to think about. Though the odds seem slim that it would ever come up.

i'm torn because the life expectancy of someone who receives a kidney is not much longer than people who just do dialysis. it'd be little risk to me, but for whatever reason it's not like they get a kidney and then live a normal life to age 80.

Definitely for a family member; perhaps beyond.  I think I may also donate my body to NEOMED ……..they should be particularly enthralled with my liver.
