My wife’s Kidney Stones got me thinking what’s the worse pain you have ever been in?

Mine was probably when I had appendicitis but I was only 8 so I don’t remember to much of the pain. Other then that it’s probably been from a terrible dentist doing a root canal. 

What’s the worst physical pain you can remember being in and what caused it?

Exposed root in a tooth.  

Bursitis.  

I've had a leg amputated. Bursitis is worse. 

Broken collarbone….twice. 

I mentioned on the surgery thread last month I was going though a hernia repair but getting the hernia was probably it for me. 

Feels like a really bad charlie horse in your abdomen.

This is an injury that just makes me cringe .

When I feel my collar bone and imagine it being cracked…..yikes!

Kidney stones are no bueno….requires heavy drugs

My wife spilled hair removal wax on here (heated it in microwave) and it was a screaming fast trip to the ER as the burning wouldn’t stop and it wouldn’t wash off. They had to peel the layers of skin off a few of her fingers…..that was bad.

Kidney stone and gout. 

Born far worse than the broken bones and dislocated joints I have had. 

I have read kidney stones are the only thing comparable to natural child birth. 

Gout is worse at times than kidney stones. 

Gout is the only pain that has actually made me cry as an adult. 

I've had an 1800 degree furnace blow up in my face causing 2nd and 3rd degree burns on my head, face, neck, chest, and arms.

And that doesn't even come close to the pain I felt from a kidney stone.  The only time I've ever vomited from pain.  Screw those things.

I remember you posting about that.  What year was it?

• Soccer ball to the nuts from about 3’ causing bloody urine for awhile. 
• And then I had someone slide tackle me in a pickup game (ie no shin-guards) and his cleats took out 3 chunks of my shin. 

Honestly, the shin injury probably takes the cake. Waited 2 days to have it seen, with my entire leg black and blue and I could faintly touch bone in 2/3 wounds. Turns out it was nothing but a really bad bruise and cuts, but I couldn’t walk for about a week. 

I’m sure all those pale in comparison to kidney stones and a few others posted here.

Speaking of the cleats to the shin. Do you remember the Nike shin guards you boiled in water and then molded to your leg. I was playing indoor and took a shot that made it explode and crack into my leg leaving pieces stuck all down my shin. That was pretty awful.

Passed two kidney stones…both easier than really bad gout attacks.

I have literally been awake all night shaking/shivering from the pain like I had a high fever but it was just from the pain.

I would go through ANY experimental shot, “vaccine” (quotes because gout is genetic not a virus), gene therapy, anything they come up with if it even had a 5% chance of getting rid of gout for good.

Being that I work on industrial furnaces (everything from designing them to retrofitting for lower emissions to troubleshooting/commissioning) I feel really bad for you.

I have been close a couple times when it comes to furnace explosions, even in the next building over when a hydrogen furnace exploded, but have avoided being directly involved in one so far.

I have been doing this for 20+ years and every trip to the field is serious business.

i haven't had one since i started taking alopurinol 5 years ago. It's worked for me.

I am on 300 mg/day of allopurinol, still get them. 

I am trying to get the doctor to up my dosage. I understand as high as 600-800 mg/day is acceptible for those that get it really bad.

He wants to do another full blood workup before he lets me go over 300 mg/day.

Problem with allopurinol is once you are having an attack it does nothing. Only way to get rid of the attack is tons of water and colchicine.

Problem with colchicine is if you take more than 3 pills in 24 hours (you are supposed to take 2 on onset of attack and a 3rd an hour later...then no more) then colchicine turns into the absolute BEST laxative in the history of the world. 

We are talking explosive diarrhea and you have hardly no warning so just stay next to the bathroom.

So sometimes your choice is extreme pain or extreme diarrhea.

ah damn. sorry dude that sucks. Yeah im on the 300 mg too. I was getting attacks like 3-4 times a year. It took a good year on it though before no attacks but none since.

First time I had kidney stones I felt like I got hit in the back with a baseball bat. Happened at work and had to have the company secretary drive me to the hospital. Laid on a gurney, writhing in pain as I watched gunshot victims, etc being brought in. No meds given, btw.

Doctor found a peanut M & M size stone and said they'd have to remove it manually. For those who don't know what this means, they take a contraption, that I affectionately referred to as "the jaws of life" up through your "lil buddy." This thing is like the claw game where you try to grab a stuffed animal but it grabs the stone.

After the procedure they make you drink as much water/clear liquid so you can urinate. First urination offered thick, chunky, blood urine spraying in 3 directions. Just like when you've had too much beer and finally "break the seal" you're peeing every 5 minutes in significant pain.

Sad part is, they couldn't find the stone.

Second time I got them I got home and laid in bed 12 hours in pain. Threw up which must have dislodged it, allowing me to pee, which I hadn't done in 12 hours, which was a brown/black color. Felt fine afterward.

I don't wish this on anyone and I know it's a "TMI" post.

They said had I been another 6 inches in front of the furnace the concussion would have killed me.  Our furnace uses a combination of RX and natural gas during the cook time, then kicks into nitrogen for the last 2 hours to get rid of the flammable gas and make the furnace door safe to open.  Turns out the technician that handles the recipes was clueless and cut the nitrogen time down to 10 minutes to try to cut costs.  He neglected to inform anyone of this.  So when the door opened all the natural and RX gas that was all pushed to the front of the furnace exploded as soon as it hit the flame screen.

So the moron didn’t know that the 2 hours of N2 was specifically designed for 5 full volume changes (minimum) as required by NFPA 86 in Class C furnaces?

Endothermic gas (RX) is nothing to mess with, a good mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen with some nitrogen and carbon dioxide as the rest.

I hope that guy got fired, that not only almost cost you your life but should have also come with a hefty OHSA fine due to circumventing a safety required process (nitrogen purge).

I get gout a few times a year and can confirm it is one of the worst pain known to mankind. Took me three years to even know what it was or what was going on

Yea sometimes my episodes vary from mild to extreme. Got it in the knee once and it was hell
