Asus? Acer? Lenovo?

Newegg has a huge selection. I know there was a thread about this not long ago, but I can't find it.

Requirements:
<$500

Not a Chromebook.
PC
At least 128gb SSD
<15" preferably
Touch screen = indifferent
Looking for something on the light side and good battery life. I'll be commuting with it daily.
Also, will eventually be using an external monitor w/ a dock setup

Primary use is basic MS Office stuff, light Excel work.

Buy cheap you get want you pay for .. cheap.    Poor people buy cheap tools thinking that a shovel is just a shove only to find out that not always

the case. Only having to buy a second shove because the cheap one handle broke ... now which shovel is the cheapest.

If this is something that you needed to do work or be productive spend more .. are you worth more or are you cheap .

He has a point. Will you be doing any digging with your new laptop? I'd make sure to get aluminum over plastic construction, if so.

Microsoft Surface Go with the Type Cover is the current front runner.

Personally I like a full powered processor with the most cache i can get and more RAM.

It's a little over budget but Amazon has a 15" hp with an i7 processor and 8G of RAM.

They have slimmer options without optical drives

Why a "NO" to the Chromebook?

I prefer PC for work purposes.

My last three laptops have been 13.3" ultrabooks <3 lbs.  They start at more like $600-$700, but being so light is very underrated.  More than enough power for your needs.

I wouldn't worry about storage - you can swap out yourself around $80-$90 for a decent 500gb SSD.

I'd sell you a lightly used (no real signs of wear) i5 HP Envy with a 512GB SSD for cheap, but I took the RAM out of it to pop into another machine.

Handled everything short of video editing and 4K gaming.

Buddy of mine just got this.  Seems solid:

I just got an i5 15" Envy, w/ touch screen. It's ok, but way too big for my liking.

Surface Go is still in the lead, but most likely scrapping the budget and going with the higher spec one.
