Looking to plan a family trip (6 nights) for next year with our 5 y/o daughter and 2 y/o son. For those of you that have been recently what are your recommendations?
Wife and I stayed at the Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness, great for families

Second mortgage, fast passes, get to the park at rope drop, nap in afternoon, pool, return to park at night after character dinner on dinning plan (go table, casual, snack plan), rider switch with 5 year old.
I also think better to take a 8&5 year old than 5&2 year old

In all honesty, this is probably the best advice you're going to get--imo, when parents take their kids when they're this young, it's more for them than it is for the kids. It's very expensive, and the two year old will not only not remember it, but they may be afraid of these larger than life creatures getting in his/her face...trust me.
we took our girl when the youngest was 6 years old 8...10
Our 5 y/o is a princess fanatic and I think it will be a perfect time for her to experience this. We recognize it isn't ideal for the little guy, but we plan on going back maybe when she is 10 and he is 7.
we recognize the expense of the trip, but not something we would do every year so we aren't overly concerned with splurging for vacation...that is the point of vacation, right?
Go in the summer and save yourself a few bucks. It will be wicked hot with almost unbearable humidity but it will be way cheaper than peek months.

Actually, I'd go early December, a week or two after Thanksgiving.

There is also a calendar out there somewhere that shows which park to go to, don't go to the extended hours park, that park will be the most crowded that day.
A long time ago, but I took my kid when he was 4 yrs old. We went the week before their very busy Christmas week...and it was completely dead. You could walk right on every ride. It was 75 and sunny the entire week and we just jumped from park to park with the "park hopper pass".
The problem I ran into was that my kid absolutely loved the 1 free included character breakfast....so I ended up taking him to 4 of them that week...lol. Super expensive....but so is everything there.
