The. Worst. I have a buddy who is extremely overweight (probably 450+) who swears that a vegan diet is going to get him "healthy" and make him shed the lbs like wildfire. I stopped arguing with him and just said "live and learn."
Well, I could see a vegan diet doing that. He would be eating at quite the caloric deficit, especially at 450+ lbs. Also holy fuck, how can he even move at that weight?

That's awesome by that guy.
The vegan freaks are so annoying.
I do have a very good friend that has been a vegan for 10+ years. He does for his own health and moral purposes. The thing is, he doesn't give a shit about others eating meat and doesn't preach to me or our group about it. He can go to a regular place with us with no problem and just gets a vegan option.
Then again, he is more libertarian and not a flaming liberal.

If they do it right, maybe, but more times than not the diet is chock full of carbs with limited protein and the vegan wonders why they are still fat. I tried to get him to go keto (high healthy fat/moderate protein/extreme low carb) and just get on a treadmill and walk (or walk in the street).
He needs to do something weighing that much.

I have no problem with vegans that aren't trying to force their way of life on others.

The thing is he might go vegan and cut out fried food and shit, lose 30-40 lbs off of that, think it was because he went vegan and continue on that insane path for health. You'll never get him to listen to Mark Sisson or Gary Taubes after that.
