Shoes on in the house?

What are the rules in your house?

I started watching Curb Your Enthusiasm recently and one of the episodes has a bit about Larry not taking his shoes off at someone's house.

If you're a no shoes house, are you strict with guests also taking them off?

Now that you mention it, I would never take my shoes off at someone else's house, and doesn't even occur to me to ask.

And that seems kind of dumb or discourteous.   No one walks around with shoes on in their house, so why would they want you tracking in the nasty outside on your shoes?

I never took my shoes off growing up. My wife hates shoes on, so now I do, and went and bought slippers. I need to have support.

I dont ever tell someone to take their shoes off, though most do.

NOTE: I didnt just wear shoes inside all day. But I wouldnt take them off right away before stepping inside (winter/cleats/etc notwithstanding). I would take them up to my room and take them off. Or if I was just running in for a few minutes then back out never took them off, etc.

We take our shoes off and honestly all of our guests just naturally take theirs off when they visit as well.

We are mostly shoes off (we have a screened in porch so easy to kick off and leave there), but don’t ask other people too. And kids inevitably keep their shoes on half the time. Our downstairs is all wood flooring so it isn’t a big deal.

It seems to me like this is a younger generation thing to take shoes off.

We have wood floors. No carpeting whatsoever so my shoes are always on until I sleep. If I go to someone else's house and they have carpet I'll take the shoes off if everyone else has.

If I’m in for the evening or for a while I’ll be without shoes on. We do have carpet and most take theirs off but we rarely ever care. I don’t take mine off or offer unless it’s like old people from church or whatever that have perfectly always clean houses with carpet….

Side note: my mom had just turned 16 when I was born and I’ll just say I wasn’t ever allowed to really get dirty as she gave that effort to impress my classy and well to do grandma (who didn’t care if I was muddy or not)

So basically to this day my 4 year old shoes still look like they’ve never seen the outside and I can wear white shoes in mud and not get them dirty lol. So if anyone has clean bottoms on their shoes, it’s me.

I broke my sesamoid bone in half on a turf toe injury. By big toe no longer goes upwards. If I walk barefoot, it’ll be on fire for 2 weeks. So I wear shoes with the orthotic made for my big toe in it.

I think where you live also plays a part. I had good friends who were always shoes on people. Once they moved to NYC they became shoes off people because they don’t wanna track NYC dirt throughout their apartment.

i knew people growing up that lived in shoes-off homes, but ours was not one of them.

i tend to kick my shoes off when i walk around the house, but it isn't a given.

Luckily for me, I know how to mop, so I don't require people to remove their shoes.  I tend to wear slippers around the house for general comfort.

Occasionally I take my work shoes off before walking through my house if I forget to change them at work. Since I work in an ER the very thought of tracking stuff through my house turns my stomach.

Shoes on in my place and every place I grew up.

I do go to a friend's house often, and it's shoes off there because that's what they do. They have never asked. I just noticed they do.
