I prefer set foot, being that I'm old school.

Step foot just sounds wrong to me.

I've never heard of "step foot", and have lived in several regions of the country. If it exists, it must be a highly localized thing.

I hear it often and not just in my area, as I got the idea for this thread off of Heretic's about the missionary who was killed when he "stepped foot" where he shouldn't have.

“Step Foot” I’ve never heard, and I thank the lord for that.

I'm amazed that three of you have posted already that you have never heard anyone say or write that.

"Yanni".  Never heard "laurel" used before.

Oops - sorry, wrong thread.  Mean to say "set foot"..

Have never heard or read "step foot" used before, and I've read a lot over the years.

Then you didn't read Heretic's Social Darwinism thread:

"2. Complete dipshit decides these people need them some Jebus all up in them and concocts a way to sneak onto the island despite minor issues like the threat of death or how it's totally illegal for him to even step foot there."

And now you've read it after all your years of reading.

Dang.  You mean I gotta go read that thread now?

EDIT: just read it.  After all these years I've never seen a train wreck before now, lol..

It sounds wrong because it is wrong.  It is set foot.
