This lottery irritates me because I feel as though they should give the bottles outright to the winners, not just the right to purchase.

Eh, given that it'd be the state of Ohio giving the bottles away, I'm glad that's not the case. I don't want my tax dollars paying for someone else to win free bourbon. I'd just like the opportunity to purchase, which this gives me a shot at.

Thats pretty cool that they do a lottery. Here in Alabama you have to wait in line for days and hope that ABC store got some in. I had Pappy last year for the first time but Im not a whiskey person so I didn't have the best opinion on it. I had people tell me it was great and other say its just overrated. Most people I know who try and get some just do it to resell.

^^ I'm not a fan of the state being in charge of liquor distribution in general, but I do like that the lottery gives folks a chance to buy that doesn't involve standing in line forever.

I've also never had Pappy, but will gladly buy a bottle for my own consumption if my name is drawn.

I've had Pappy a few times, most recently a few years ago shortly after I got married. A friend bought me a glass at  Bourbon in DC. It's good, but it is just not worth the price. I'd rather have an Elmer T. Lee (also Buffalo Trace) or Stagg at more than half the cost.

That is pretty neat that Ohio is doing that. Maryland doesn't do that, but we have a better selection of bourbon than Ohio, I would say.

Nice thing about living in Cincinnati, Kentucky is a very short drive.

Yep, it's a great resource. I have found that local stores sometimes have a better price on Scotch, but their bourbon selection and prices are as good as anyone.

Honest question.  Can't you just buy this stuff in Kentucky?  Can't you just go to the distillery?  Or is it THAT rare?

I don't think every distillery sells their entire line of bourbons. I'm guessing these are that rare.
