Office setup

For those of you working from home full or part time, what is your home office setup?

I'm in the market for a new desk and started looking at power standing desks. Anyone have one? I've had good luck with my Autonomous chair so I am looking at their desks right now.

I'd also like to upgrade from two external monitors to one giant external monitor. Anyone have a widescreen monitor they'd recommend?

Sounds crazy, but I've been doing this so long I've gotten really efficient at working with just a 13" laptop.

I move around my house, so I don't have a desk (though considering getting one).  Kitchen island, or dinner table, or living room sofa/chair.  I also have monitors on my exercise bike and treadmill for those long conference calls.

Sometimes I miss not having multiple monitors, but it's fairly rare.  Money better spent on gadgets that let me maintain the illusion of being couped-up in a home office - premium ear buds, watch with 5g service, etc..

In the market for a larger place where I'd have space for a dedicated home office.  I've used a standing desk - found it surprisingly uncomfortable with dress shoes (so more for at-home than actually at the office).  But IMO you're better off figuring out how to inject some exercise into your daily work-from-home routine.  Whether that's an under-the-desk treadmill, or a recumbent bike or many other options....Dual-purpose yourself a treadmill that you can use as a standing desk, or maybe a slow walk for a long conference call or something like that.

And by "dual purpose" I mean you can get adjustable laptop stands to sit on top of your treadmill.  So that's basically a standing desk, when you want, but also a fully functional treadmill for working out or other.

i have an ikea bekant with the fancy legs that go up and down. i only rarely use it as a standing desk, but i regularly adjust it here and there if i want to sit clumsily in my chair with enough leg clearance. i'd buy it again given the chance.

an ultrawide monitor makes infinitely more sense for people who don't already have two monitors. if you have two 1080 monitors, i'd just save the money and put it elsewhere, perhaps into monitor stands/arms for your existing monitors.

i had two decent monitors at work and recently consolidated down into a single ultrawide. i'd take the two monitors back given the chance. it's far easier for me to sort out work if i can "physically" move it to another screen.

13" MBP, external travel monitor + risers for both.

I have the small Apple Magic Keyboard and a mechanical. I use the mechanical more when I'm home. If I'm moving about, I go Apple.

I used to have a pic of my setup, but can't find it. I'll post whenever I do.

Here's the monitor I have. For some rando Chinese brand, it surprisingly kicks ass. I've had it for 3 years.

For regular monitors, I always recommend Dell. I have a this 27" 4K that's just collecting dust. I don't have a large enough space at the moment for a dedicated workspace. Best screen I've ever purchased.

Their widescreens are also great, although not cheap.

We had autonomous desks at my old job. would recommend. The one we had had like 3 presets, we were able to set one of them ourselves. The other 2 were set by the in house ergonomics coaches who would sit and watch you work for 2 hours once a year. This is the monitor that I use for my WFH setup and I love it (I have 2 of them for whatever that's worth).

I'm still pondering but definitely think I'll end up going Autonomous for the desk. Veridesk was the other brand I'm looking at.

My monitor requirements are pretty much putting me in the $500-600 range, unfortunately. I'm going to run to Microcenter this weekend to look at a few in person and hopefully walk out with something.

That is the pixel count I'm looking for. Just a bit oversized.

Ended up ordering from FlexiSpot after seeing an ad on youtube. Got a desk for myself, and a desk and chair for my wife, for $910. Reviews seem great and they come with 30 day returns.

The new desk is nice. The frame is VERY good. The top seems decent but I don't necessarily love the color. I'll replace it with a real wood slab at some point.

It's so much sleeker than my old desk, my office looks twice as big after a small re-arrange.

What's the width of that desk?  I've worked on a laptop wherever for so long that I have no idea what I'd like as a desk space.

Hoping to maybe move in the next year, so would definitely consider what might later be used in a dedicated office.

Looks good. I'd get a riser for the laptop.

I can’t function without 3 screens. I really need 4, but the equipment I have unfortunately loses the clarity with a 4th screen.

I also need to swap sides, but I was in a rush when we moved in, and I’ve been too lazy to swap it. That would allow the laptop to drop down lower.

I'm used to having 3 screens (laptop and 2 externals) but I'm consolidating to just one larger external.

55" x 28"

Ahhhh, sounds about right.  I've been trying to guesstimate, and 48" seems like it might just be not quite wide enough.  28" deep also looks right.

That's probably the exact size I'd get.  Though I might need a drop leaf for a smaller space now, but then good luck finding that in an electric adjustable standing desk.

Looks like they sell similar to what you got without the top, and the width is then adjustable.  So I could just grab something cheap temporarily, and buy a much nicer top down the road.
