The video of the spire collapsing is rough. I really hope it turns out to be accidental.
Today I fucked up: I accidentally burned down the notre dame cathedral.

Damn that is terrible.
I stayed close when I was there, in Marais.
Hearing that the inside is totally up in flames. When the fire is finally out, there won’t be anything left expect the 2 tower structures.
Fuck, that's terrible.
Tragedy beyond words.
Pic from my friend from earlier.
This was shortly after it started.
Awful. Hopefully they were able to save some of the historic artifacts inside.
I saw a tweet saying all artifacts and artwork were saved.
It appears that firefighters or whoever have made their way into the towers. Which is a good thing based on earlier reports of not being able to get inside because of the oven effect of the stone structure.
900 years old...damn
It's not only a national tragedy, it's a world tragedy.
Easter mass collection plate will be a little bigger.
THe amount of knowledge it took to make that structure has been gone for a long time.
Just saw a tweet that a spokesmen from the fire department has said the main structure has been saved and preserved.

My guess is that the relics and artwork....which are priceless are gone. My guess is that those are worth more than the building

There have been reports that those were saved in the early stages of the fire. Obviously, some of them will be gone. I’ve seen reports that the crown of thorns was saved as well as some of the other relics.
I was on my way out the door to go meet a friend for an early dinner when I saw this. I turned on the radio and listened to updates on the way to the restaurant and all I can say about how I was feeling was ... stunned.
The sheer amount of art, architecture, history/faith all involved in Notre Dame - such an iconic building. Glad they were able to salvage what they could. There are few enough buildings that represent such myriad beauty in this world.
A couple pictures from inside of the cathedral.
Any relation to the spate of Catholic churches that had been vandalizedin France since February?
