Starting up the old thread. Tho I don't have one yet, I've been thinkinng about picking it up. I have a solid 40 min commutte most days, and 90 min each way once a week sitting idlely on a train. Thinking one might help make the commutte more tolerable.

For those that have one, how feasible is using it as a mobile gaming system ?

I use it almost exclusively as a tablet. It's a truly great system, Mario Odyssey is the best game I've ever played.

We bought one for our 4 year old grandson who's been begging for one for about 6 months. Hopefully it's not a 3-5 use item that gets thrown under the couch when he gets bored with it.

Not sure about a 4 year old, but this 34 year old plays it daily.

Yeah, I know. Warned my girlfriend that it could be a waste of money but that's what he requested.

I can play for several hours before needing to dock it but I've never timed it. I'd guess somewhere between 3-4 hours.

Is it worth getting as a stand alone system to play on a TV? I was thinking about getting one for the family. Have a 4 year old who loves to play games on his tablet (my parents got me an original NES when I was 5) and seems to have knack for figuring it out. I think I would use it more on the go on flights and things but I really don't want him taking it to dinner out and all of that.

I am the inverse of Justin and almost exclusively play mine on the TV and it works fine either way.

What games do you play?

I've only been playing Mario Odyssey and Stardew Valley lately. I haven't played Mario Kart in a while.

The Zelda game for it is one of the better games ever made in my opinion.

I'll get Zelda eventually. I've heard it's fantastic but I haven't really played much Zelda since the NES.

Is that an RPG?

Yeah. You basically inherit your grandpa's farm after he dies and get to manage it however you want. It's a fun little game, very relaxing to play.

Just bought one, going to pick it up on my way home. Leaning towards Super Mario as my game. Will eventually get to Zelda I bet.

You won't regret Mario Odyssey. It's a ton of fun.

And a tip, I have the physical cartridge for Mario, but every other game I buy will be digital. I don't want to worry about switching out carts or not having a game I want to play on hand, so Mario stays in at all times and now I have access to all games I own.

Oh solid, how big are most games? The default HD is 32GB, right?

Yes, you would likely need an sd card. I luckily had a 64gb card I wasn't using that was the correct speeds.

The sdcard is only necessary if you choose to download games online. if you go to the store and pick up odyssey, it'll come with a little sd-card looking thing.

i have splatoon 2, sonic mania, and super mario odyssey.

odyssey is excellent. sonic mania is your run of the mill sonic game (so it's solid... 8/10). splatoon had the potential to be excellent but the lack of voice communication really kills it.

I forgot, I have Sonic mania as well. Also, Blaster Master, but I beat that a while ago and replay isn't great.

I think I'm finished with Mario. Had about 370ish moons. There were several levels I didn't go back to after beating Bowser but I looked up what the incentives were to keep finding moons and nothing really jumped out at me.

I've got 250ish moons, I think. Still going back and exploring all of the levels.
