Should financial literacy be an educational requirement in high school?

Yes

Yes, so should civics, but apparently our school system has completely failed in that regard.

I took (a required) civics class when I was a senior (1999). We teach a required (sophomore) financial literacy class now. Government class is required of seniors. I wish Economics was.

I don't doubt it is required, my point is our school systems have failed teaching kids the importance.
I'll bet Carlos Santana knows more than the average American about our government.

Probably. Is he now an American citizen? If so, they have to take a test on that shit, so you're probably right.

Yeah, that's why I said that. He became a US citizen on Friday.
Yes. But I’m in the minority when I saw world and US history should be required also. So, at some point everything I think kids should have to learn becomes too much for the allotted time haha.

Economics was indeed a requirement when I was in school. I took it as a senior in the spring of '02.
Didn't realize it wasn't still.
Funny thing is, I know people from my school who were my age or older that will occasionally take to social media to bemoan how personal financial literacy and doing taxes should be required in schools (both of which were covered in that class).
No matter what is taught in school, if you're not paying attention and doing the work, you're not going to learn it, and that's not the school's fault.
This is, of course, completely omitting that they have a more powerful research resource at their fingertips than anyone's ever had, and if they REALLY wanted to learn those things, they could.
I took it as an elective my sophomore year in highschool. It was invaluable. It blows my mind that it's not a requirement.
