We're all old and have been on the interwebs for a long time. Share old stuff from the simpler times of the internet here because it's Friday and I'm bored.

Getting those discs in the mail for so many free hours of AOL. And then finding out that the nearest AOL source was in a town that was considered a long-distance phone call. That shit was not free, man. My phone bill for my first month of teh internet was 4x the usual.

While not so much internet, I get nostalgic for The Sims quite often.

I recently dominated a game of Oregon Trail.  I remember playing as a kid and always dying pretty quickly - must not have understood the concept of stopping to rest.

I've also over the last 5 or 10 years bought some PC games I loved as a kid - Police Quest, Hero's Quest and Doom.

Doom 2 is the greatest. With the exception of that one annoying-ass late-game level where you had to walk on ledges above toxic pits and those ledges are about as wide as a strand of spaghetti.

There was a period 10 or so years ago when I discovered all the fan made .wad files to make new Doom games off the source code, since ID Software made it accessible to the public. There was just this non-stop collection of kickass levels that tended to more than make up for Doom 2's one failing -- that it was a pretty easy game, at least for a long while into it.  Alien Vendetta, Memento Mori, Requiem, there's a long list of really good fan-made Dooms. I was OBSESSED with them for a long time.

I'm not sure how many of those I found.  I think the Doom2 emulator I had might have had the 2-3 best ones.

I got Doom 3 in the gamepack I purchased.  Couldn't get into it, although didn't give it much of a chance.  My issue with most "modern" video games is I don't have the patience to become adept at the precise timing of complicated moves a lot of games seemed to require.

icq didn't have usernames, right? You just had a random number? I remember using the hell out of it, but I don't remember a lot of the specifics.

I remember if you got above a certain score, you were supposed to take a picture of your screen and send it in for a prize. Well I achieved the score, took the picture and mailed it in. My prize was an Activision Achievement Certificate.

Atari 2600 will always be my favorite Christmas present ever.
