18 years ago today I proposed to my Wife.
My 34 year old daughter was born on this day.

Second only to Christmas, for a kid growing up in the early 1960's. We moved into a new subdivision only half-completed in late 1962. The first July, they put sawdust in the street, had a block party with live music during the day, and evening fireworks in the unfinished part. In the next two years it expanded to a 4-day celebration, and the outside world basically shut down for us kids for that time.
Best summers ever, until some crabby person called the sheriff that there was un-licensed bingo going (I played it every year from 10 years old on, if I had a spare dime). After 1982, no more celebrations. All of my school friends still shed a tear for that era.
