You are a teacher so when they talk about people who will pay higher taxes they ain’t talking about you boo boo.

Take care

Every government regulation of the economy is passed on as a "tax" to the American consumer.  Gas WILL go up, cost of energy WILL go up.  Executive orders will bypass the senate and the radical left will put into motion the slow decline the Trump boom.

What are some things everyone hopes Biden accomplishes.

As a fiscal conservative I hope Biden legalizes weed and taxes it. Anyone who wants to buy it can buy it already easily why not make it less shady and get taxes from it. Not to mention it will free up space in jails. I also hope he continues prison reform that Trump has already started.

Climate change laws. Get something in place to force companies to cut down on emissions. Particularly the auto-industry.

Unless the same changes are done worldwide, we're just screwing up our auto industry and accomplishing relatively little.

We can be the leaders on the move. It’s better than sitting back and acting like nothing is wrong.

Plus, I think many world leaders want to get the same thing accomplished. They can work together.

Well, you know, I don't want to post this because we all need to give Biden a chance....

I don't think there's any chance he'll do this, but I've seen it mentioned a few places and one of his main Covid people wrote a piece about something like a "globally equitable vaccine distribution program".

The obvious answer is that in war country comes first.  But the theory proposed is much more subtle - it's a global outbreak, and its imperative to get hot spots under control first and foremost.  So if America vaccinates 10% of its population and starts crushing the virus, but you let it rage in Africa...then you prolong the global outbreak which means more chances for the virus to mutate.

Basically, when you get below a certain positivity/case rate it's diminishing returns and the doses need to go to where they are more needed.  Probably the right decision, but it seems inconceivable any leader would make that call.  Or imagine the scandal if you do it secretly, because it's the right call, but no one can take that political hit because it would be a bloodbath in 2022.

If the US funded this thing and the company making it is US based......oh well.

They are still a major part of the supply chain, and that's true in some of the poorer countries we are talking here, as well.

So I know you're big on opening up the economy.  The question is what about the GLOBAL economy?  You continue to do economic damage if you're not smart about how the vaccine is distributed globally.  I'm saying there's a national self-interest in wiping the virus from the planet, and in that respect hoarding vaccines until every American is vaccinated might not be the smartest or most effective approach.

I don't think it will go over well for the Biden admin if they started to vaccinate the rest of the world, before focusing on the US. You don't campaign on "Trump killed 200K people," and then go out to help other countries.  I know both sides have their sheep, but I can't see that approach going over well.

This.  Biden and the Dems will make sure they make money for themselves and their cronies.  Trump would have gave it away

I can't imagine anyone making that call, either.  It's potentially out of his hands, as well, as most of the developed countries hedged their bets making several agreements (like we contracted 50M vaccinations from Phizer, I think another 50M or so from Moderna, etc).

So then Phizer goes out and makes contracts with Canada, UK, etc...Where it gets dicey is does that mean we get their first 50M doses, or do they ration out the vaccines to their buyers equally as they produce them?

Eventually they get around to the humanitarian effort of providing free doses to the poorer countries.  And that brings us full circle to the argument - ignoring the morality issues, is it even the best way to fight a pandemic to vaccinate an entire country like the US before you start to vaccinate Africa?

Specific to the Pfizer vaccine, this isn't true. Much of it's funding came from the German state. It had nothing to do with operation warp speed.

It wouldn't have been Trump's to give away. It's not his (or Biden's) vaccine.

Not true.  They walked that comment back the next day.

They were guaranteed a $2B contract with Operation Warpseed if their vaccine got approved.  They were then largely funded by Germany.  So they had virtually no risk.  And guaranteeing a market has long been an important part in drug development (even without funding on development), something Pfizer acknowledged almost verbatim in that statement.

In other words, even if Pfizer's vaccine was only modestly effective, even if it ranked 20th among 20 other better vaccines receiving approval and never vaccinated a single person....they were guaranteed $2B from Warpseed.
