My wife and I have been together just over 7 years and celebrated our 6 year wedding anniversary 10 days ago.
Married for 9 years in July. Together since December 2006 (first date) and January 2007 (officially "together").

Happy belated anniversary.
Together for 20 years, married 18.
Married 19.5 years together just shy of 21 years.

I haven't seen him post in awhile. I miss Belly.
How old is QO? Might he give you a run?

I do too, and I hope he's okay...and he might!
I thought someone posted recently that Belly was still alive and well, just didn't have a lot of time to post. I do hope he comes back at some point.

That was me. I gave him a well check text. He’s good, just been busy. Says he’ll be back.
We went out casually for 2 months, and then were engaged for two months. This coming Labor Day weekend we will celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.
posted by Curly JSince January 1st 2000. So 19 years. Been married since Veterans Day 2002, coming up on 17 years.
January 1, 2000 is our anniversary, wife wanted to get married on Y2K. When she picked the date I was all for it to which she replied "Why do you like it so much? Men usually don't care!"
I said "I will NEVER mess up the 2 things men usually do that get them in trouble. I can't forget our anniversary since its on New Year's Day. I also will NEVER mess up the question 'how long have you been married?' as all I need to know is what year it is. It's 2019, so 19 years."
She called me a typical engineer at that point, everything being 'logical'. I explained that was just being a man, not an engineer.

Lol. Living dangerously!
That's funny. A young couple we know got married on December 13, 2014, or 12-13-14. The wife set the date, and made clear she wanted a day her husband could remember.
What did the young man do for a living? Oh, he's an engineer. And she was already an attorney. Go figure.
Mine isn’t as easy as those. But was very happy to have 2015 as the year. Pretty easy math and an easy year to remember. Then June is my birthday month and 20 is a round number.
Yeah, 6/27/09 isn't easy.
What's the secret sauce for you all who have been married for so long? Especially for those who had kids. I am happy to see ETB still married. His posts during the early OC years were not that favorable for having kids.
I don't have any issues remembering dates, and not just my anniversary. I have 6 siblings, plus in-laws and 4 nieces and nephews (so far) and I know everyone's birthday. I also know all 4 parent's, all grandparent's, etc. 🤷🏼♀️
^^^^^^^* Because you’re a woman.

At some point - preferably early on - both of you have to make a decision that your marriage is too important for either of you to give up on. And you have to remind yourselves of that as often as is needed.
Or, as Bernie Mac so eloquently puts it from the male perspective .....

Being master of the obvious, I think it starts with finding the right person, someone who you see spending the rest of your life with. While not a believer that there is just one "right" person for everyone, I can't imagine those who had more game in dating than I (which includes just about everyone) dated more than two or three such people.
I stayed away from the "I'm X years old and tired of the dating scene, so I might as well settle down".
Stay away from cliche sayings like "don't go to bed mad". If it works for you great, but our experience is the opposite. The few times we've argued,we go to bed mad, wake up civil, and in next few hours realize it just isn't worth the fight and come to a conclusion.
I married a woman with a then 14 year old son. He participated in several of the activities I did in school. Seeing these from the perspective of a thirty-something was awesome.

Just to reiterate the two thing above.
1. Marry the right person. I don’t believe in the “only one soulmate” BS either. But if you marry the wrong person marriage is hell. If you marry the right person it is heaven with a few rough spots (even the best couples argue).
2. Decide to love each other and decide that divorce is NOT an option, period. Love is not an emotion, love is an action/verb. You choose to love that person and show love every day. Infatuation is an emotion, not love.
Dated my now wife for 4 years and have been married 30 years last May.
The key in my opinion is to choose wisely.
Married 4 years this past May. Today marked 8 years since we started dating, according to her.
