Just curious how everyone is doing with regards to their jobs. Are you remote or in-person? We're about to hit 6-months of fully remote soon, and the earliest they will re-evaluate a move back to the office is Jan 1. It will likely be next summer before I have to go back to the office. There was a lot of anxiety at the beginning that we'd be forced to do layoffs, but as far as I know, not a single person in our company has lost their job.

I wasn't sure if I'd like being fully remote, but it's great. I wouldn't be upset if I never had to go back to an office.

I'm remote indefinitely. My office lease expired August 1st. I'm guessing we'll have a new space sometime in 2021. We're having zero hiccups now, so I wouldn't be surprised if this lasted a long time. 

We also just opened an office in Nashville and they are lightly pushing some to relocate. Most C-level already made the move. No fucking way for me, but no change in pay and no income tax state is appealing. 

As far as 100% remote, I'm somewhat over it. NYC is not the place for it.

Oh, man. I'd relocate to TN in a heartbeat.

I may be going in the Fall for a week or two to check it out. I've never been, but I've heard good things. 

If I bounce, I'm headed to Denver for sure. 

Next month is 10 years in NYC. I love it, but COVID has really put a damper on the positives of living here. The city will be back, but 10 years is 10 years....might be time to move on.

I'm remote on the days I don't have in person labs. So M W I'm on campus and T TH F I'm remote.

Been in the office for a month now, which is good with me bc I don’t prefer wfh. We did an A/B schedule prior to that to keep less people in the office until cases started going down. Probly had a month or two when almost no one was in the office. Haven’t had to lay off any full-time staff. 

I've worked from home since 2017. There's really no reason for my company to have an office, but crazier things have happened, so who the hell knows. 

I'm a huge fan of 100% remote and have no desire to go back. A lot of people over the years (mostly men) have said they don't understand how I do it or why I like it and that they prefer being in an actual office, but some of these same dudes have changed their tunes now that they've tried it for an extended period of time. 

Started new job after Memorial Day. I have reported to the office each day. It has been fine so far. Masks are required, we have offices and use social distancing as often as we can. Temperature checks are each day and we have hand sanitizer and cleaning procedures for the whole office. I'm helping to create a new business process, setting up a CRM for the firm, so it is a lot of meetings with senior leadership. Once we get a process in place, this job will allow me to go fully remote so I can finally move back to the Columbus area at the end of the year. 

FWIW, my wife and I like Tennessee very much, enough that we would consider living there. We have spent time in Clarksville because our grandkids lived on Fort Campbell. It’s a nice town that’s about an hour and a half drive to Nashville, where we are looking to visit again soon.

Denver would be a cool place to live. How big of a boost would it be to leave NYC and go to either place? I assume TN is significantly more without the state income tax.

NYC is more than double the income tax rate of CO. Overall cost of living is less, but also have to factor in getting a car, insurance, gas, etc. Denver housing overall is booming, you can find nice value if you go further from the city.

I've also been exploring Boulder just for the hell of it. I love that city. I could have a lavish, modern apartment for around 30-35% less. All the amenities compared to zero here. My place is nice, but I have zero perks and it's old as hell. Only pluses are it's big and I have a ton of closet space.

Tennessee is significantly less on on all fronts. Rent is very cheap, cost of living, etc. I'd have to fall in love with it immediately to move there. I have zero friends/family in Tennessee, compared to a lot in Denver.

Oh yeah....I also live with my gf, who doesn't have a driver's license. She flirts with the idea of leaving, then immediately backtracks. I think a few more trips to Denver and she'd be sold. BUT...she has a ton of family about 30 south of Nashville.

Unemployed for 5 weeks now. Started virtual classes on Monday for my two oldest (1st and kindergarten). No way I could truly grab another job right now as I'm needed any minute to help them get sorted.

I have a few offers on the table, two are work from home and I'm considering it.
