How Are You Perceived at Work

...by your co-workers

Heretic said he nearly laughed out loud at work due to one of my posts and it got me thinking....we all respect him quite well on here and know he knows his stuff and brings a lot to this board.

.....but is he perceived that way in his office?

Im perceived as a someone that handles  most everything well with a big use of sarcasm/humor. I’m there everyday and there for the kids....not necessarily my co-workers. I’m cordial to the co-workers I don’t care much for, but they mostly know if I like them or not. Most like me, some are just ok with me and no one hates but some just tolerate me.

I think I'm liked more than what I probably should be. I've been there a long time, know what I'm doing and am efficient doing so AND am willing to help out people if necessary and have somehow parlayed that into a situation where I basically am allowed to exist under some sort of "as long as you get your stuff done, be however you want to be" unofficial rule. Like, at times, I'm shocked at how much I get away with just because I'm good at what I do, or at least am perceived as such.

I think with co-workers, I'm about the same. I talk and joke around with the ones I like and just sort of exist with the ones I don't, where I'm not rude or antagonistic with them, but I'd have to think they get the idea whether they're around or not really doesn't matter to me, as I don't make any effort to make conversation with them and tend to give short, vague responses when they're talking at me.

I am the guy nobody takes seriously.....really just like here.  But I am also the guy that is known for being very good at what he does.

When the workers union wants something done they want me to do it.

I've got a good reputation at work on my immediate teams (I'm part of two, one small team of 12 that I work for/with on a day-to-day basis, and a larger IT team that supports our entire company). My yearly reviews are always great and my small teams knows they can depend on me to get shit done. I do have the reputation of being the Ron Swanson of our small team.

I have 3 reports, and I’m perceived as the boss that doesn’t gaf as long as your work is done. We have a terrible vaca policy, so I essentially let them do whatever they want (within reason) as long as they understand the minute a problem would happen with their work or a deadline that it would end.

Upwards, I’m perceived to know my shit, get good reviews, but I don’t roll over for people or kiss ass. If you ask me to do something and I see no value in it, I’m going to ask why I am spending my time doing so. In the US and Canada this seems to be fine, but our foreign cfo (from Turkey and new) seems to have a problem with me asking why. It has created a bit of an issue, but I have a problem with just putting my head down and doing something just bc someone wants me to bc they don’t understand the business. Bc of this, I am exploring other options as soon as we have our baby.

My coworkers think I'm a riveting conversationalist and that I'm dead sexy.

I am liked by many at work and considered a dedicated hard worker.I dont like to leave things unfinished if I can help it.I like to try to make work enjoyable and have fun but when things get serious it work...I socialize with  a few outside the work place.
