Spinoff from the cooking thread. Post about your gardens here.

I didn't get one put in this year and I'm kicking myself for it. I'm going to start preparations for a 2021 garden soon so I have no excuses for next year.

My husband went small this year with only three beefsteak tomato plants and three cherry tomato plants.

I finally got around to planting and hanging the baskets I bought for our front porch last year. Each one has two Sunpatiens and one each of Euphorbia, Dracena and sweet potato vine. They're doing pretty well.

Visiting my mom this weekend, she had planted a TON of beefsteak tomato and bell pepper plants. Hopefully I'll get to share in that bounty in a few weeks.

Yeah he planted way more in years past and we always ended up with a shit ton of tomatoes. He makes marinara, soup, chili, BLTs, and there are always a bunch left over that we just give away. I'm looking forward to not having quite as many for once.

No vegetable garden, but a healthy herb garden.

This was my first year (because of lockdown), so didnt do a garden, but did potted peppers and some herbs. The Jalapenos are exploding. Probably have about 30 already to size, just waiting to pick them off after they have time to get some heat. Seems to be fruiting about 2-3 daily at this point. Wouldnt be surprised if I ended up with over 75. Have some Fresno Peppers that started great, but production is slowing and a few buds turned shit and fell off. Have about 12 so far, and about 12 more promising. Hopeing I can get close to 50, but likely will be around 30. The Anaheims got about 7 early and that may be it at this point. From what I am reading, maybe a lack of Calcium? Every bud flowered, but then didnt set the fruit.

Basil is about the size of a tree. Cant eat it fast enough. Rosemary is great and doing well as is the Parsley.

Next year I will definitely add a bunch more stuff. But, the yard isnt set up well for a garden based on sunlight. So, we will see.

I was fortunate to get most of my supplies before the shut down. My go to plants are cherry tomatoes (this year I am trying a brand called Tigerella), lettuce, some onions and this year doing some squash. I planted my lettuce early and am ready to start a second round.

But I didn’t get a chance to get new seeds for jalapeños and cilantro.  I tried using seeds from last year, but none took. Just got some cilantro seeds from Lowe’s and planted them last week. I’m not going to do jalapeños this year then, mostly because I have a 3 year old ghost pepper plant that is budding again! Those fuckers are really hot!

Wife has a tiny garden in back of our house that should probably be a flower bed and it is so damn fertile lol. Just a few tomato, green onion, cucumber and lettuce and you can’t even see the ground lol. She has a separate herb garden with about 6 diff things doing fairly well.

Flower beds all around the house and a lot of care into them

Bump

My plants got off to a bad start. Just didn’t seem to want to grow. I’m wondering if it was because we went from really wet to really dry with not much good temp?  I wonder if those fires had anything to do with this?

Things are looking better, though, since about two weeks ago.

Tomatoes are doing well. Celery is doing great. Zucchini and Cucumber are solid. Peppers fucking suck. 6 plants, none seems to want to grow. I think my son (who is 4) probably got too into watering them. Plus, its not a planter, but an in ground bed. So not nearly as good of draining.

Basil also isnt growing, no matter where I put it. But again, my son loves to rip it off and eat, so I am 95% sure thats killing it since Basil should be cut at least 6 leaves down for propper trimming.
