NYC is a prison

Is that not true with statistical evidence? NY, CA, IL, MI, PA are among the leaders in population fleeing. Maybe I am misunderstand what is going on there.

I heard 1000 a day are moving to Florida. Not sure what the rate was in previous times.

I'm sure it is true. I just literally wanted to get a comment in before QO posted his "I'm disgusted" replies.

No idea about the others, but in my case paying a premium price to live somewhere and not being able to enjoy what comes along with it is the worst.
The kicker is getting paid an NYC salary and being able to NOT live in NYC. City taxes...goodbye. State tax obviously less. This is the main driver of why I'm out.
I read a random article saying 100k a month are moving into the state of CO.
Pretty much (pre covid), why I was over DC. Even if I didn't get this current job in Italy, we were planning to move to another state. We were paying a premium to live in DC and our friends were starting to get lame. Social benefits were no longer worth the price.

Nice the cost of living salary follows you, enjoy the fresh air in CO.

I think it's mostly about taxes, at least in the case of NY and CA. Although there have been more than a few articles about people struggling financially who are hoping to move somewhere cheaper and keep working remotely.
But I'm not sure how many people will get to keep working remotely. I'd say it depends on the business. And, uh, if companies find more of their employees can work remotely than they imagined, they'll start thinking about outsourcing to much smarter and cheaper folks overseas.
I find that there is a collelation between the philosophy of the elected officials and the amount of taxes imposed on the population in that state. I can see southern CA and NYC being worth it to some to pay that cost of living for the benefits of either weather or social scene. Don't find the same reasons for metro cities in Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania.

Wow, what a fucking driver. Kansas....THE WORST.
Never driven through, but I've heard it's flat and boring.

It makes Illinois look like Vegas.
I've never seen anything so desolate and flat. Also very very windy. Didn't see a single cop the entire drive through the state.
You go right through the the Smoky Hills Wind Farm, so that was cool.
The amount of wind farms in Illinois is stunning

air quality in denver is poor, at best. probably an upgrade from NYC but probably not by a wide margin.
