Filing Unemployment

As I posted in the other thread, I’ve been furloughed from my job while keeping 100% health coverage. But no paychecks until we are brought back in full-time with sports.

So, I was instructed to file for unemployment in IL because they pay my unemployment tax to IL. But when I got to the submit claim page, the estimates were $0. Can’t make it into office (even if they are open) and phone is busy, so I submitted anyway.

Wondering if anyone has experienced this?

Might depend on whether Illinois requires the employer to submit individual wage data with each quarterly return.  In Ohio (since at least the last 6 years) the employer submits individual employee wage data along with their corporate quarterly return and UC tax payment.  Before that, when employers only reported quarterly totals with their returns, the employer only submitted individual wage data for an employee when that employee was laid off and filed for UC.  So maybe in Illinois it still works that way ……meaning your employer will now be notified that you filed for UC and the state will ask them for your wage data now to determine your benefit. Not sure, but a possibility.

Makes sense. Thanks man. Completely new to this and was thoroughly confused since the questions asked are straightforward lol

Hope you get that resolved!

Being an independent 1099 contractor with no such taxes being paid on your behalf is just not good right now.

Hoping to hear back by Friday, if not, Monday. Of course, the government finally passed the bill and furloughed employees get UI benefits plus a one time $600 payment. IL didn’t have a furlough option, so went with closest thing — laid off. Hoping I don’t have to jump through hoops to acquire the $600.

I thought only the Senate approved the Bill.  ????  I don't think Congress has even voted on it yet and won't until tomorrow.  Did I miss something?

Rep. Katherine Clark (D-Mass.) said Wednesday that the House's vote on the $2 trillion coronavirus package reached by Senate leaders could possibly be pushed to Friday.

"Our goal is to get our caucus all of the information that they need and to get to unanimous consent or voice vote by tomorrow, certainly by Friday," Clark, the vice chair of the House Democratic Caucus, told MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell.

"We are balancing the urgency which we must get this relief to the American people and our responsibility, with a multiple trillion dollar package, to the taxpayers – and to making sure that this funding is targeted at those that need it the most," she said.

...and then there's this...

UPDATE: GOP Senators Graham, T. Scott, R. Scott & Sasse will hold a news conf at 2pm ET abt COVID bill, warning they may block it due to concerns abt "a strong incentive for employees to be laid off instead of going to work."
