A salute to all those who served in D-Day.  Words cannot adequately describe those who transformed the world forever in that moment.  The free world is eternally grateful.  Salute!

No doubt.  Our society isnt even close to being able to raise men like that generation. 

 

I think of my neighbor who stormed the beaches of Normandy and was captured by Germans and was a POW for over a year.  He was a true man.

The American people back then wanted nothing to do with the war in Europe.  But I have no doubt presented with a righteous cause like that generation, this or future generations would rise up as past generations have.  

Listening to some of the stories of young men leaving their newly wed brides to possibly never see them again.  Bouncing on the choppy seas of the English Channel knowing I am about to face a hail of metal waiting to tear into my flesh.  I think how could I do that. 

Approaching 50 I will thankfully never have to wrestle with that.  And many thanks for that to those that had to.

I usually think of the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan where the solider just pukes into his helmet.
