Comfort food

My wife asked me what I wanted for dinner.  I said I was feeling like some comfort food, so I suggested grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato/red pepper soup.

She said I'm like a child with food.

Is that really a childish request?  I didn't think comfort food was supposed to come with rules like that.

Nothing wrong with grilled cheese and tomato soup. My family's go to comfort meals are chilli and meatloaf.(not together)

I love white chicken chili but my wife doesn't like any spicy food so i always have to tame it down for her.

My household was pretty poor for most of my childhood, so ... yeah, that's about right.

However, I'd say Ramen noodles, boxed mac and cheese, and hot dogs would be cheaper and, thus, more a poor household staple.

Same here.  I remember playing in the snow, coming in, and eating it for lunch during winter break.

Comfort food for me starts with mashed potatoes and ends with meatloaf

LOL.  I still like the occasional Kraft Mac & Cheese, and hot dogs....never much of a ramen noodle fan.

Just never a fan of grilled cheese.  Mom made it when she didn't have time to run to the store or wanted to slave over the kitchen.  I like those kraft singles on my burger, but man they are crap....double for a sandwich entirely of them (except for the bread).

We never use Kraft singles for our grilled cheese.

For me McDonalds Chicken Nuggets are my go to comfort food. I love me some grilled cheese and tomato soup/chili. Also a big fan of mac and cheese and hot dogs.

Grilled cheese is a classic, but I don't care for tomato soup.

My favorite comfort foods are beef stew, beef and noodles, pot roast with mashed potatoes...I'm sensing a beef theme here. I also consider homemade mac and cheese a comfort food.

Solid choice. It's a go-to for us as well, it's fun to pass the "dip your sandwich in your soup" tradition to the kids.

It's fun to mix-up the grilled cheese too. Use mayo. Use multiple cheeses. Either way it goes, my wife does a great job when she doesn't burn it.

Here, here!

Comfort food in the winter for me could also mean Zunardo's famous chili, or pad thai shrimp, with some good restaurant egg rolls and Chinese mustard.

Comfort food that reminds of my mom fixing me something in the winter?  That would be chicken and noodle soup - bonus if it was chicken and stars.

Was never a big tomato soup fan back then, because Mom made it with milk, and I didn't like the flavor.  The sight of it today brings back pleasant memories, though.   I prefer it un-cut, thick, rich, and seasoned.  The "hot and smoky" version referenced by QuakerOats sounded good.

I did eat a fair amount of grilled cheese sandwhiches as a kid.  Nowadays I prefer to put pickle slices one them.

Yes, mayo, not butter, on the grilled cheese.

For me, pizza is the ultimate comfort food. Nothing else really compares. Been a while since I've had grilled cheese, but that's legit as well.

WOW... Comfort food ...it could be anything from  Braunschweiger sandwich, lox and bagels, cold ribs or herring w/ wine sauce on crackers depending on

my mood and hungry for.

Wait what... I have never heard of this so you put mayo on the bread instead of putting butter on it then grill it? I don't hate mayo but that doesn't sound as appetizing as butter.

Also pizza is probably my #2 for comfort foods.

Do it. I heard the tip 10 years ago and never went back to butter.
