Car Insurance

Any Insurance people on here? Mine currently just almost doubled when we added a 4th driver but not many ways around that from the way things are now....but my main advice is for a young girl we watch over and help out. She’s never had her own insurance or car and today she purchased a 2012 Accord and went to check Insurance rates and they were higher than her car payment per month. She has two points on her license due to 2-3 speeding tickets in last 3 years.

Notorious cheap ones like Geico and the General are both $210 a month. Any of you have any similar dealings? Classes to remove points?

If you want cheap car insurance, here's some tips:

1. Don't get tickets

2. Don't buy any sports car (2 doors, 4x4 trucks, etc all count as sport cars).

3. Don't live inside city limits, almost any "major" city (even Akron size cities).

4. Don't be a young (16-25) year old male.

My oldest son's insurance, when he got his first truck at 17 (4x4) was $300/month for just adding him. My wife and I's insurance combined for 2 people and 2 cars before that was $200/month (full covered). So we went from $200/mo to $500/month overnight.

He eventually moves out and my 2nd son, 18 at the time, gets his license for the first time and just to add him to our 2 cars...we went from $200 back to $500 again.

My middle son (now 20) has had 10 points on his license since then (couple speeding couple accidents), and our insurance kicked him off ours (he lives at home and I had to sign something that said he was not allowed to drive my 2 cars or they would not be covered), he has his own car now, and his insurance on his own, through progressive, is $500/month (full coverage, he has his own car with a payment). That is not a typo.

My wife and I are back to about $250/month now (just costs have gone up in 5 years) for 2 full coverage cars.

Well, I'd also add to shop around every few years.  It's kind of like cable - they win you over with a low intro rate, and then a year or two later it jumps.

Just switched for the second time in about 5 years, and saved like $600 annually both times.

Also, last ticket I got probably 15 years ago....80 mph in a 40 mph construction zone (it was a multi-year speedtrap), and I was out of state.  $130 ticket at the time.

Called for options, and took a 2-hr safe driving course online for $30.  Ticket was expunged.
