I'm part of a wedding planning and resale group on Facebook and a lot of ladies are nervous about honeymoons that have already been booked. I'm definitely glad I'm not in their shoes.

On the other hand, a friend of mine was just in Punta Cana two weeks ago and had an excellent trip. I was in Amber Cove for a day back in February and we thought it was great. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I went with my family in high school. It was great, but I won't be going back...ever.

I haven't followed this all that closely, but 4 Americans have died recently in the Dominican Republic.  Still waiting for toxicology results, but sure seems to me like they were all poisoned.

friend of mine went about 2 months ago, just got over a bad fungal infection last week. was in the hospital for like 2-3 days before they figured it out.

6 Americans no identified as related deaths.  Seems most involved taking a drink from the hotel mini-bar.

But just saw where 6 people have been arrested in a PLOT TO KILL David Ortiz?  wtf?!?!?

Southeast Asia is the best bang for your buck,  but most countries in Europe too is better than an inclusive type of vacation.  If you budget properly and find the right flight, they are cheaper.

Similar incidences have been occurring in Mexico as well.  People are given one drink at the pool bar and mysteriously pass out, get robbed, get hospitalized (with immediate payment demands of $$$$$ for treatment), and sometimes die.  I wouldn’t go to either country, ever.

Well, I wouldn't go that far. I've had friends that travel to Mexico and Mexico City several times a year and have no problems. I've had a buddy travel in various areas on a Mezcal tour and had no problems.

But, to the orirginal post, yeah I would not travel to the DR. I'd just head to say Puerto Rico.

Mexico City is great, I did get sick though smh.  It's very hard to avoid if you want to enjoy the food.

I’m 100% in agreement. But I would also never go to those places for a quick 4 night trip. I’d go to the Caribbean or Mexico. Even some of the Central America countries for that amount of time though.

For a quick 4 night trip there are plenty of places in the states you can go to, especially if your plan is just to sit by a beach and get drunk.    Also depending on where you live, you could go to Europe for a quick 4 night trip.  I have done it for Dublin (threw in a day trip to the Cliffs of Moher) and Amsterdam flying from DC.  The flight is not that much longer than flying to LA.

I haven't been, but everyone I have spoken to said it is dirt cheap.  Depending on where/when you are flying from you can find good flight deals.  A lot of people like to do their vacations during the summer time, but If you don't have kids in school I would highly recommend the fall.  It's normally cheaper, less congested, and the weather is perfect.

I was in Vietnam last October and it was play money.  Most of the meals between my wife and I were under $7.  We "splurged" on high end airbnbs that were $30/night.    Our flight there was $640 each, so that was a good deal too.

Saw an article the other day that several people got sick from a Jimmy Buffet Concert that was held there. I'm guessing it wasn't from the music, or maybe. I'm thinking it was a couple of months ago the way the article was written, but came to light.

Is it true that travel days are roughly 24 hours each way? What city did you fly into?

Did you awaken in a bathtub full of ice and find a note to call for help?

Depending on where you're flying from I'd say that is pretty accurate +/- a few hours.   We flew into Saigon.  DC to Tokyo (14 hours) and then Tokyo to Saigon (about 6.5 hours).  It was rough, but well worth it.
