Bought a 45lb medicine ball last week for $34 on Amazon, which was a huge steal. Looking forward to tossing it around outside when weather gets a bit nicer.

$36 now. I haven’t messed with it much yet but I have a 30lb I bought a few years ago that’s same brand and have no complaints with it.

so. i'm a big fat stooge and need to do something to at least get moving. i'm thinking of buying an air dyne style bike (the rogue echo bike specifically) is this something that would help me get going in the right direction? right now i just walk 1-3 miles a few nights a week between kids events and golf 1-2 times a week but i ride since i'm trying to get 18 in before dark most times. if it's not the right thing what do some of you thin fuckers suggest?

I’d bike outside or join Planet Fitness before I went with one of those.

Start with walking.  Every single day. Time yourself.  Walk fast.  Every single day.  It cost $0.00.  It's a good test of your willpower before you drop any coin on memberships, equipment, etc.

Agreed.  90% of these products end up as clothes hangers.

If you’re walking further and faster 5-7 times per week for a couple of months, then perhaps.  But my suggestion would be rather than a bike, join a gym where you can do some strength training.  As you get older, strength training is as important, if not more, than cardio because your body is losing muscle naturally.  It also boosts your metabolism and keeps your bones and ligaments strong

Yeah, start with free -- walking and maybe some basic body workouts (planks, pushups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, etc). Start super small or you will quite right away. Like, 15 second planks, 10 pushups and sit-ups, 25 jumping jacks, etc). Up it 5 a week for 8 weeks. Then, incorporate more free stuff...lunges, squats for legs; chair dips, etc for arms, something for the back and shoulders, etc (google has a lot of good ideas). Again, smart super small. Another 8 weeks. If you are loyal to this for 4 months, you will have established a routine and you can safely spend money on something at home or join a gym, but it psychologically takes about 3-5 months to build up that routine to the point where you can get it done and enjoy it without feeling like its a chore.

Anyway, thats my suggestion for someone who ballooned from 205 (which I wasn't totally good with in general) to 235 in 2015. Incorporated this method and then joined a gym in 2016, then bought some home gym stuff when they all closed in 2019. Took a few years, but slowly for back down to 198-200. Cant get to 190 goal weight, but I am very pleased with where I am now. Legit took my 3 years to get there, because I wasn't willing to totally alter my diet.

If you do decide to eventually go with the Air Dyne you're better off using it for HIIT than steady state cardio. But that's not a cheap investment for 15-20 minutes of use 3-4x's a week.

Like others mentioned, go with walking first until you drop a significant amount of weight. Then you can graduate up to the more intense stuff if you like.

I either walk or do brief/intense burst HIIT type exercises (battle ropes superset with kettlebell swings, prowler pushes, farmers walks, etc). No steady state distance running crap that raises cortisol levels.

yeah my thought was to use it for the resistance and get the heart rate up while working muscles lightly. but again. going from 0 -100 - 0 is my MO so starting slower is probably best.
