Are you using AI in any capacity?

I'm genuinely curious and worried about it at the same time.

I mean I know "Sci-Fi" is just that, fiction, but every single AI sci-fi ever written is AI killing off humans.

I am also curious how Automatic is using AI to create/respond to emails and write a resume. I have never used Chat GPT or any other AI program so I am a "newby" in that regard.

Try it out, it's free.

https://chat.openai.com/

For the resume it was easy.

Prompt:  I've worked in X industry for X years, my title is Y. How would you add this to your resume?

Then it spits out about 2 pages of outputs. It made it very easy to highlight responsibilities with quantitative measures. I then tailor it to my liking.

For emails I use it with external venders regarding pricing inquiries and situational modeling. Basically just to spice it up to be more professional compared to my normal way of writing emailz.

It's all about your prompt.

You can copy-paste text into it, so as far a resume would go, I would prompt with something like this (which I just did):

"You are HumanResourceGPT and are involved in hiring full-stack web developers for a Laravel job. Can you please update my resume in a way that would help me stand out from the rest of the pack? [PASTED RESUME FROM PDF]"

Response:

Hi Justin,
Your resume is impressive, and you have relevant experience for the Laravel job you are applying for. Here are some suggestions on how to make your resume stand out from the rest:
  • Emphasize your Laravel experience: Although you mention Laravel in your tech skills, it is only briefly mentioned in your experience. Since this is a Laravel job, you may want to highlight your experience with this framework more prominently. Consider adding some bullet points to describe the Laravel projects you worked on and what you achieved.
  • Use numbers to quantify your accomplishments: Adding numbers to your accomplishments can make them more impactful. For example, you could mention how many users accessed the project you worked on, how much time you saved your employer with your work, or how much revenue your work generated.
  • Highlight your leadership skills: Your current job title mentions that you are a Lead Applications Analyst. This suggests that you have leadership skills. Consider mentioning some of the leadership tasks you have undertaken in your current job, such as managing a team or mentoring junior developers.
  • Mention your experience with TypeScript: In your tech skills, you mention that you have experience with Angular, Vue, and React. Since TypeScript is gaining popularity, you may want to add this to your list of skills. You could also mention any TypeScript projects you have worked on.
  • Keep your resume concise: You have a lot of experience, which is great, but you don't want your resume to be too long. Try to keep it to one or two pages and focus on the most relevant experience.

With these tips in mind, here's a revised version of your resume:

It ended up erroring out, so I'll try it again later, but it did try outputting a rewritten resume.

Yup, it's all about the prompt. Then you can keep going to clarify, tweak further. I enjoy asking it to write poems and songs about.....whatever.

I.e.....

Write a limerick about a dying message forum with members obsessed with arguing and crying about politics.

There once was a forum near strife, Where members would squabble for life, With politics brewing, And endless subduing, It dwindled, consumed by the fight.

I, too, could do without the jmog vs geeblock slap-fights.

Maybe I'll start asking ChatGPT for thread recommendations and post one or two daily. As always, I wish others would start threads more often, but we seem to have centralized on a handful of threads.

Or a lot of sci-fi about AI. I have a collection of short stories by classic author Frederic Brown where one of them is a one-page story about AI. Short(er) version is that smart people created a super-computer that knew everything. They turned it on and started things off by asking the biggest question of humanity's existence: Is there a god? The machine responded, "There is now." One of the smart people tried to turn it off and was immediately fried. The end.

Here we go:

Sure, here are some potential thread topics that could spark conversation and engagement on your online forum:

  1. What was the last book you read? Would you recommend it to others?
  2. What's your favorite hobby and how did you get started with it?
  3. What's the most interesting thing you learned recently?
  4. What are your thoughts on the latest trends in [insert industry/topic of interest]?
  5. If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
  6. What are your favorite local restaurants or cafes, and what do you like about them?
  7. What's your favorite movie of all time, and why does it hold a special place in your heart?
  8. What are some travel destinations on your bucket list, and why do you want to visit them?
  9. What's the most interesting fact you know about [insert topic of interest]?
  10. What's your favorite childhood memory, and why does it still resonate with you today?
  11. What's the best advice you've ever received, and how has it impacted your life?
  12. What are some current events or news stories that have caught your attention, and what are your thoughts on them?
  13. What are your favorite podcasts or YouTube channels, and why do you enjoy listening/watching them?
  14. What are some creative projects or hobbies you've taken on recently, and how have they challenged or inspired you?
  15. What's your favorite quote or mantra, and how does it inspire you in your daily life?

Remember, the key to creating engaging threads is to ask open-ended questions that allow for a variety of perspectives and responses. Good luck!

Gonna have to read some of his stuff.

On topic, I started watching Mrs Davis on peacock last night. The title character is an all-knowing AI that speaks to people thru an earbud.

Justin, I'm pretty disappointed that it didn't suggest these threads:

1) What does she mean?

2) How do you like your eggs?

3) How does one obtain a dregree?

4) Count up

5) Count down

Haven't really dove into it yet, but I doubt I'll pay for it.

I am still paying for GPT 4, but I'll probably ditch that eventually.

Been using ChatGPT heavily the last week or so. Upgraded to the paid subscription for $20 so I'm evaluating if it's worth it over the free version. So far, so good. It's not going to take my job, but it isn't going to augment my skillset by quite a bit going forward.

i've tried to use it but i have no clue what it's supposed to be doing. i was trying to get a photo made for a joke and needed to buy credits for it to work so since i'm not going to pay money for a joke, i'm not sure how much use case there is for me.

My company just rolled out our internal version of chaptGPT and i am going to try and feed it data and have it create a powerbi or spotfire dashboard to see how useful it can be at doing that for datasets that i'm not sure what the use case is at the moment and don't want to invest huge time into without knowing if there is a use.

Serious question. I wrote about a 9 page technical paper for an engineering conference coming up on a project I did that maybe patented down the road.

I have until next week to turn the paper into about a 20 slide power point for the presentation and I have been too busy work wise to even start it.

Can any of these AI programs turn an existing paper into a slide deck?

Now that would be useful.

A whole week?  LOL, I get it you said you have no time to start it.  THE worst aspect of consulting that I absolutely despise is over-formatting presentations.  Frickin' 30 minutes to make an effective slide, 3 hours to make one "professional".
