I wanted to pickup a copy of Fleetwood Mac Tusk, but they didn't have it new. I'll probably pick up an old copy locally once this is all over.

Just ordered the following (new) from ebay:

Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Pink Floyd - Meddle
Jason Isbell - Southeastern
Metallica - Ride the Lightning
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Metallica - ...And Justice for All

I've had Master and ...And Justice since they came out on vinyl AND they're two of my older ones that still work really well overall. That's a problem with a number of the ones I picked up in grades 5-8. Young Heretic was a LOT worse about taking car of his shit than Middle-Aged Heretic is. Lot of those older ones I own have scratches and marks on them that make parts of them impossible to enjoy. Especially annoying when it's, say, Ratt's Dancing Undercover that runs all glitchy because I played it all the time and didn't always pay attention to how I handled it...

Technics – direct drive, SL-D2.  Still works well despite its age :)   Had to replace the stylus about 15 years ago when I resurrected the system.

Just the mention of those components has me drooling for the time when we took our time shopping for a proper setup.  Don't forget the ambience - the soft glow of the strobe (adjustable speed control) on the turntable platter, and the backlit needle on the receiver frequency dashboard.  I guess the equivalent today is the big see-through PC housing with the cool LED lights, like both my boys have for gaming.

My system (all separate-brand components) is now 40 years old, packed away in my basement.  My father just gave me his system (he's deaf now), and I plan to set it up in my garage so I can crank some tunes when I'm working in the yard.

Whippersnappers will never experience that shopping thrill.  I went with a buddy to the old Sun TV two days before Christmas in 1983 to get that system for my Dad.  Horrible time to go, shoppers literally cheek-to-jowl, wanting to ask about every little thing, frazzled store clerks - ugh.  My friend got a clerk's attention, he looked at me, said "Whaddawant".  I yelled, "Turntable, receiver, speakers - $300!".

It was like parting the Red Sea.  That clerk dragged me thru the crowd to his desk, and I was done in 10 minutes.  Greatest shopping moment ever.  Pretty decent system, too.  Dad played a plethora of polka albums on it over the years.

My listening corner in my office:

Nice!  Has a sophisticated 1970's college professor's room feel.  Points deducted for no huge receiver or speakers, lol.

Gotta start somewhere. If I continue to enjoy the hobby I plan to upgrade in a few years.

Won a lot of 4 Billy Joel albums for my wife on ebay last night. Was bidding on a lot of 4 Dire Straits albums but they ended up going for $60 + shipping.

Spinning Pink Floyd Meddle right now. The entire B side being one song (Echoes) is kinda cool. Fantastic album.

I was planning on buying Black Sabbath - Paranoid but forgot after I had filled my cart earlier in the day and everything was cleared out when I came back to finish my order.

Any of you have a recommendation for a somewhat “cheap” turntable? I’ve read some reviews on ones on amazon, but none seem to be all that great.

How cheap? I do not recommend the suitcase style turntables.

Mine was $150, and it's been great so far.

What kind of speakers can I attach it to? And does that work on the “new” colored vinyl that’s out? A lot of the reviews I was reading were saying that the new colored vinyl doesn’t play as well. Something with the needle bouncing too much.

Lol, took me a minute.  My parents used one of those from 1955.  It did look like luggage when closed up, but it was a solid piece of furniture.  The turntable was mounted on a "floating" surface, and it had the cool vaccuum tubes that glowed thru the grill next to the speaker.

I bought an album through text message earlier this week and it was delivered today. They finally sent me an album I wanted and it was significantly cheaper than I could get it elsewhere.

Nice! I just signed up for the text message thing you posted back then. I've purchased from that website a few times with satisfaction but wasn't aware of that text option.

I went to a couple record stores today to kill some time. Didn't find much, but did pick up my first few 45 rpm's. I never really looked through that section before but now I'm definitely into it.

My next purchases, which I think you might appreciate, will be:

Ride the Lightning
Master of Puppets
...And Justice for All

Their three best.
