The Pirates have extended (long term) Bryan Reynolds, and are spending more money on him than anyone in their history.

Saw that. Very good news for the future. They're actually making an effort to not lose their stars as soon as possible. And were able to get a guy who had requested a trade to not just stick around for the short term, but instead, for the long term.posted by QuakerOats

And two out of three over the Dodgers. Which should have been all three, if not for a bullpen meltdown in the first game that turned a 7-2 lead into a 7-8 loss.
Was fun following it on Twitter while in the office and watching Dodgers fans melt down in real time because their gazillion dollar team is hovering around .500 and was made to look pretty pedestrian by an far less expensive team that's getting infinitely more "bang for the buck" so far.
Put a few bucks on pirates over 3 runs for the game and they got it in the first lol!! Fuck the dodgers
Second best record in all of baseball.
Nice to Maggi get the start at 3B ..............cool story this week.

Would have been great if he'd have gotten a hit, just because that would make his story even better. But, man, hard to imagine the journey he had getting to this point. Like 12-14 years of nothing but minor leagues (and one very brief cup of coffee in the bigs where he didn't even get to play) and basically being a generic sort of journeyman (got called up from AA AND his career average is around .250) who probably was as shocked as anyone to find out he was getting called up to the bigs. And has gotten both his first MLB at-bat and first start. And probably has stayed up longer than expected, due to it being Canaan Smith-Njigba being sent down when Reynolds returned.
My brother in law kicked his wife in the face for a HR ball last week lol

With Maggi, who got optioned back to AA but got one more day in the bigs as the 27th man for the doubleheader, getting his first two hits and an RBI!

I feel sending him back down is bad karma….also my kid clearly brought good fortunes to many sports teams within the city of Pittsburgh but he’s now home and I feel the Pirates will now revert back to being the Pirates

0-7 now. He needs to go back. Forever. You can visit him when they host the Reds.
Has there been an update on Oneil Cruz's recovery at all? I know surgery was just a month ago, and they expected it to be a 4 month recovery with the possibility of a mid/late August return. Just haven't seen anything.

Likely his last summer home….sorry
Got one today to break a long-ass losing streak. Keller was great, going the distance and pitching a shut-out. Not much offense again, though. Think Castro had a two-run homer and that was it.
I don't know what is more weird: That the team started 20-8 and now is on a 1-9 slide. Or that they still lead the Central because no one in that division is playing good and the NL Central is looking like the AL Central as far as being their league's Division of Shitty Teams after the Pirates, Brewers and Cubs at least got off to good starts.
The latter
Found this on my Facebook newsfeed and thought I’d share it here:
The dream of having a .500 season went down in flames yesterday with the loss to Cincinnati. Also, the dream of making the playoffs -- although they entered the day with a less-than-one-tenth-of-a-percent chance and would be eliminated even if they'd won due to the Cubs also winning.
But they at least are finishing the season strongly. After a couple 100-loss seasons, they won't even hit 90 losses this year and I read that they've been above .500 since late July. Just need to learn to avoid having those ugly little 2.5-month periods where they play .300 ball.
And at least it's fun fucking with all the potential playoff teams. Took 2/3 from the Cubs and 2/3 from the Reds and now have Philly and Miami for the final six games.

I want that Al Oliver, should be a rookie and I’ve met him several times as he lives in nearby Portsmouth
