What phone are you all using these days? My current Samsung Galaxy is on its last legs and I'm due for a phone refresh from work in August. I'm planning on gutting out another month and getting whatever the new premium iPhone ends up being. I've resisted switching back to iPhone for a while, mainly due to my preference for Android Auto, but CarPlay just got support for an app that was a must (Libby) and it seems to work much more reliably in my car based on limited testing with my wife's iPhone.

I'm a power user and so it will always be Android for me.  Love my widgets.

I've had a couple of IPads.  Really wasn't impressed with IOS as far as the things I liked my phone/tablet to do.  If that's the experience I wanted, I could easily set-up my Android basically the same way.

I used to be the same way, but then realized the ability to customize just wasn't that important to me anymore. I prefer Google's Material Design pattern, but played around with an iPhone XS at the Apple store and found iOS to be good enough. It's certainly snappier than what I've been dealing with for the last year+ on my Galaxy. In the end I could get a Pixel phone and be happy, but the integrations between the iPhone and my Macbook's, both natively and with various apps I use on the computer that have counterparts on the iPhone, we're enough to push me that way.

Finally upgraded after 4.5 years from an iPhone 5 to the iPhone XR.

After my flip-phone, I've only had iPhones.  Didn't know what to get for my first smartphone when I shopping with my two sons.  Told the salesman I wanted it to make phone calls, send texts, and give me directions.  My sons and the salesman all said "iPhone" at the same time.  It works for me.

I've only had iphones since about 2008. Not a fan of Android's OS and their phones used to be ugly AF. I don't think iphone is the end all be all, but I use apple for everything at this point. Why make life harder?

I really like my Galaxy S8. I don't use any Apple products and have no plans to. I don't hate them or anything, I just prefer android. 

iPhone. Android doens't have enough to sway me to switch. I had a one temporarily and I did not like the UX.

Also I have a Macbook and lots of purchased apps, sucked in I guess, no reason to change.

This has been my experience, as well.  The last iPhone I had was the iPhone 2, though I do have an iPad at present.

For my mobile daily driver, though, I very much prefer the customization options and robust widget availability of a rooted Android.  I got suckered into an Android with a locked bootloader for my most recent device (guy at the store said it wasn't locked, but he was referring to the G6, and not the G7 ThinQ), but I've got my eye on either the OnePlus 7 Pro or the Asus Zenfone 6 here shortly.  I'll probably never buy through a service provider again, and I'm always going to opt for one that allows for it, even if I'm not using it that much, because I want the ability to do so if I change my mind.  It is MY device, after all.  I'd prefer to have access to whatever I want in it.

That's more true globally.  It might not be far off in the US now, but Android growth was primarily driven by developing markets, India, China, etc....that Apple avoided because the IPhone was too expensive.

Certainly.  Globally, Android devices outnumber iPhones nearly 4:1 because of iOS products in general being prohibitively expensive.  That also does limit the Android flagships in recent years, given the prices being near the same anymore.

The chart was for "North America," which probably includes Canada and Mexico as well.

Been an Android user since the Droid loved that phone and have never had a problem with any of my phones to make me want to switch. Never had an iPhone or any apple products my wife does so I use them seldomly and don't have an issue with them. Just don't ever see myself making the switch.

Yeah, having used both, I really don't get the tribal loyalty some people have.

Don't get me wrong, I have no interest in switching, but iOS devices are fine.  They're very secure, have an OS that functions almost seamlessly with the hardware, and kick ass with battery life (compared to any Android device I've had).  Androids, on the other hand, can handle high-intensity usage, are far more customizable, are capable of graphical widgets on the home screen, and can be overclocked.

For the 90% of the users in the US, who primarily use their devices to text, tweet, and upload selfies to Pinstachat or Faceyspace, iPhones are great devices with a low learning curve.  Given the brilliance with which they've marketed themselves over the years, it makes sense that they hold such a strong share of the market in the more affluent countries.

I was going to check to see where the chart was from, but was too lazy.

Surprised it would be that high in NA, but Apple made a huge mistake not making a deal with VZW sooner.  If Android wasn't first to VZW, things may have played out very differently.

I actually worked for VZW when the original iPhone came out.  We were still pushing Blackberries at the time.  Android was this quirky device we didn't know much about, so we didn't push it that hard.  VZW dropped the ball on how to market that.

In our defense, the Blackberry Storm was kinda badass for the time.  I miss the utility of having a "click screen" that enabled a sort of right click/left click functionality.

I knew one guy, and he loved it.  He passed away in 2017, but he had told me earlier in the year that it was the best device he'd ever owned.

I had the 8830 WE, the Curve, and the Storm.  Never cared for the Pearl, so I didn't get it, but I was a Blackberry guy for awhile.  I honestly think if they could get rid of the QWERTY keypad (I know it's a selling point for some, but it's too little of the market at this point) and maybe find a way to update the i/f while keeping the security, they could make a comeback.  Maybe something like what Huawei is doing, now that they're effectively banned from working directly with any of the OS developers in the US (which, obviously, isn't hard to get around, since Android is opensource).

I had a friend who used a BB up until like 2015. It always amazed me he still used one that long but he loved those phones as well. 

iphone, and it's 90% because we have 2 ipads, a mac and my wife has an iphone and will never switch. i held out for about 6 years with an android (work always gave us iphones, after they dropped BB back in 2011) in 2014 i dropped the personal phone and only used the work phone (iphone). when i quit last year i had to get my own phone and went with the iphone strictly because all of our family computing equipment was iOS. I do like their security and avoidance to sell my data, but the premium for the equipment is laughable at times ($1000 monitor stand LOL).

Droid for personal, iphone for work. 

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 and love it. I'll upgrade the next Samsung probably late this year early next year. I prefer the Samsung over the iphone. My work iphone is fine, but I'm not a big fan of the email format. It is confusing as hell sometimes to follow email threads. 

I'm also big Google user, so I like the Galaxy.
