Surprised there hasn't been a thread yet.  It looks like shit is heating up.  Already 21 reported dead.  The videos are pretty crazy.  This could get pretty bloody soon.

I was going to start a thread on this later today, thanks for beating me to it. Things are definitely getting intense over there. The folks in charge are apparently getting very nervous.

This video has been making it's rounds.  Pretty powerful message.  Also, she is very brave.

These are great to see, but will caution, the same demostrations occured in Libya, Tunsia, Egypt, Bahrain, Qatar, and most tragic, in Syria. The Mullah's in Iran will try and thread the needle, give in to some demands, improve the economy, but also not give up too much power. Too early to tell where this goes, or how long it goes. In the end, it may back fight, as it may force the regime to become more hardline. I surely hope that is not the case. The fuse is lit though and hard to put out. But, given all the failed demostrations in the Middle East since 2011, even 2009 in Iran, I'm not sure this ends up going well.

I will say, the sad thing is, if anyone of these people wanted to flee to the U.S. for protection if things go really south, they cannot as they are banned under the President's Immigration Ban.

I would hope that he makes an exception to his own rule.

Besides that, I would also hope that other countries decide to take them in. Clearly, these people are not the extreme hardliners and want to live free from the hard dictates of their religion. They are not migrant workers. The problem with this is that they will most likely be settled into pre-existing ghettos.

It should also be noted that ... Lately the point has been made that it's not necessarily true refugees that is the problem with extremism in the west. It is their children and grandchildren. So I don't know what you can do about that.

No reason to lift the ban, freedom does not come cheap. Fleeing is not the answer, you want your country to be free, stay, an fight for your future and make it free for all people.

They don’t want to flee. They want to live in their own country without some shitty government, and Obama did nothing to help them. It isn’t a “sad” thing at all.
