Aww… don’t have Trumpy to impose tariffs to bail them out anymore?

Did you not read the article? They are shutting down because power costs are too high to be competitive.

Not sure how “Trumpy tariffs” makes your argument look good.

If tariffs keep manufacturing here in the US why wouldn’t you be for that?

Our own (leftist) government purposefully makes our own energy too expensive to use.  If you stop right there and consider that, and its ripple effect on the economy and The People, you should easily discern how incredibly disturbing that is.  The sheer ignorance and/or arrogance of those leading us down this path is beyond measure.

1. I am personally not a fan of tariffs.

2. I said IF tariffs kept jobs here why wouldn’t you be for them? It is still being studied if Trump’s tariffs on China and Mexico steel/aluminum did any good or harm.

3. Tariffs are not “communist”. One of the first laws passed by the US government after the Revolutionary war ended was the Tariff Act of 1789. It was made to protect US manufacturers and raise federal money. Until the early 1900s when income tax was created tariffs were about 95% of the federal revenue.

Was the US communists until they started lowering their tariffs in the mid 1900s after WW2?

That’s bad even for you Kizer.

It was obviously said in jest  no I don’t think you’re a communist lol

It’s just a joke since tariff obviously aren’t a tenet of free market capitalism.

What if one believes in free market capitalism for their country and not having free market trade around the whole world? One can have free market capitalism for their country and charge tariffs for imported goods.

That’s what the US did for the first 170+ years of its existence.

Then they’re not truly a free market capitalist?

Then stop with the horrific, one-sided trade agreements that hamstrung the U.S. and caused the offshoring.  And at the same time, go tell China to lift their import taxes so there really is a level playing field.  You can't have it both ways.

Yes, it is possible to be a capitalist for your country, nothing about capitalism says you have to trade freely with other countries. It’s about free markets in your own country.

The main tenet of Free Market is government staying out of it.  A tariff is the exact opposite of that.

Wouldn't need a tariff if real free trade existed globally.

Government staying out of inner country regulations, not extra country trading.

Inflation sends consumer sentiment down to record low

The University of Michigan's consumer sentiment index for June fell to 50.0, the lowest point on record. "Consumers across income, age, education, geographic region, political affiliation, stockholding and homeownership status all posted large declines," said survey director Joanne Hsu, adding: "47% of consumers blamed inflation for eroding their living standards, just one point shy of the all-time high last reached during the Great Recession."

LOL, I guess sometimes "alternative facts" are convenient?

I'm not a politician, but it seems like they are stumbling to try to say we are already in a recovery.  Although I suppose that route carries some risk with it of a Q3 decline.
