Changes for Logan in 2010?
-
LoganAlumni99I have heard rumors all year that this was Amyx's last season. Even if this rumor turns out not to be true, what other changes could be in store for next season?
Does anyone have any insights on whether coach Wolfe will stick with the spread offense with the loss of Angle?
Let's hear your ideas. -
GoChiefsI don't think it will by Amyx's last season..he's still got a lot of life left in him as the head of the Chieftains Nation IMO. Rumors always fly when a coach gets a lot of time in at one school..I just chalk it up as that..a rumor.
Don't know anything about the up and coming players..but I doubt any of them are even close to being a Pat Angle. I could see them letting go of the spread this year even though it has been a success so far. But you gotta have the QB to do it in order for it to be a success. Who is the leading candidate to lead the Chiefs next year? Of course I thought it was Jurgensmeir...but after seeing what happened during the Brookhaven game...it's gotta make you wonder if that's the case.
We hear year after year about how horrible the Chiefs are going to be next year..and it hasn't happened yet. Could next year be the year it does? I have no clue..but it's definitely got to worry you with the amount of talent they are losing to graduation. But I'm starting to become a believer in the statement that "We don't rebuild, we reload." Hopefully this next group can have just as much, if not more success as the teams before them. Regardless..I'll still be supporting them through it all! GO CHIEFS! -
irishball25Go Cheifs, I think Logan will be fine next year. It seems that when programs have success they do reload. I don't know how good the program was before the run you guys were on, but I think winning starts tradition. Every class wants to write their own history. Every kid in town wants to wear the jersey when they get to high school.

Free_is_betterwho does logan bring back next year?
any game changers or top prospects? -
BoomhauerLogan has had 3 very special classes the last 3 years, the most i've ever seen that close together at Logan, when they were coming up through the ranks very few teams could even challenge them on their schedule,I can still remember Logan fans bragging the last 5 years or so about how the cupboard was stocked with loads of talent and they were right! Now we get to start over with a new crop of players,,,the coaches really don't seem comfortable with Jurgensmire at QB IMO,they put Mcdaniel in as Angles backup before the season even started when rumors were flying about Angles shoulder,,and then again Last Friday night,,so that leaves Kelly Long or the incoming freshman QB can't remember his name right off, they should have a decent running back in Dylan Cavinee and a speedster named Austin Lindsey who could play RB or WR.. Brandon Graham at WR DB Lineman Nathan Chandler is coming back I think and I think the Dement kid also Tim King returns on the line, thats all I can think of right now.....
-
tank2nastyCongratulations to Logan on a great season I picked them to win it all!
Unfortunately they ran into a dangerous Brookhaven buzzsaw!
They were the better team that night! -
BoomhauerThanks Tank,no excuses here the Cats were for real, even with Angle still not sure we beat them, still had to come up with a couple TDS and that would have been a chore against that fast hard hitting defense but all good things have to come to an end sooner or later....

Not giving excuses and giving respect where it is due,I can appreciate that!Boomhauer wrote: Thanks Tank,no excuses here the Cats were for real, even with Angle still not sure we beat them, still had to come up with a couple TDS and that would have been a chore against that fast hard hitting defense but all good things have to come to an end sooner or later....

noreply66Seems like someone has been bring this up over the last few years [about the coach]
I think McDaniel may have been put in to get the running going.Jurgensmier played in one game early in the year where he threw for two TDs.I have watched him in the JV games and I will say he will do fine next year. If he doesn't start it might be because he can be used better somewhere else. -
LoganAlumni99I believe we only have 1 returning starter on offense--I'm not sure about the defense. I agree that as of right now the bright spots on next year's team is going to be Cavinee and Lindsey.
-
BoomhauerKing is the returning starter on offense I believe and Graham and Chandler on defense,I'm pretty sure Dement was a starter before he got hurt. The rumors about Amyx retiring started back when his son graduated and they were legit,my good friend was a wrestler for him and he told him personally, but he wanted to see how far he could take this senior class, they were freshman then,,now by his recent comments hes sounds like he will stick around a little longer....
-
redrocketAs far as running the spread? One thing I have learn watching Amyx's teams is it appears that he will fit an offense to the personal he has and not try and fit his personal to an offense. If you can remember just a few years back when he had Coakley and Call in the backfield they ran a two tight end power I and ran it as good as I have ever seen. ( man I loved that formation). So as long as Amyx is around he will get the most out of his players.
GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
newarkcatholicfanHow is the injured QB doing?
-
4 HorsemenLogan has had a very strong program for a lot of years now and I am sure they will be just fine.
That being said, I also don't think a player like Patrick Angle comes around every year. Logan will win a lot of games and probably win the SEOAL for the 453rd straight year (LOL), but I doubt that you see them reach the same level they did this year.......
Give the Chiefs some time though, they will be back -
BoomhauerTakes about 10 years give or take a few at Logan to see these super teams that have a real chance to advance in the playoffs,,Don't see any superstar players coming up on the farm teams, just alot of hard working team players that should win some more league championships..but theres always hope for a transfer or 2

It's Isaac Lindsey....he and Dylan will be exciting players to watch next year. I was a little disappointed that they didn't give Jordan J. a little more time to settle down and get into the game last week....he's come in on big leads in the varsity games, and led the JV's to only one loss the entire season, I believe....give him the experience of a high profile game for next year. We'll have Montgomery back on kicking as well as King, Graham, and Chandler on the lines. I've always said that when some graduate, others step up to fill those shoes...it happens with lots of sports that way...some kids play in the shadows of others and never really get noticed, until given the nod to come on stage and prove themselves. Patrick will be a hard replacement as he's just an all-around great athlete with good decision skills. The freshman team faired pretty well this fall so not sure what they'll bring to next year's team. I think alot of the returning boys will work hard in the off-season and return to seek another SEOAL league victory and take it to playoffs.Boomhauer wrote: Logan has had 3 very special classes the last 3 years, the most i've ever seen that close together at Logan, when they were coming up through the ranks very few teams could even challenge them on their schedule,I can still remember Logan fans bragging the last 5 years or so about how the cupboard was stocked with loads of talent and they were right! LoganAlumni99It wouldn't hurt to have another Justin Frye type situation in which someone unexpected steps up to be a completely dominant go-to guy.
-
GoChiefsWould indeed be great if something like that would happen! I'm ignorant to the class of players we have coming up..I know nothing about them..so I can't really say much about what I think will happen next season. But one thing I am sure about..no matter what the roster looks like..Coach Amyx will have his boys ready to play some football! I see we will have another big bunch of players graduating after next season too. There were 24 Juniors on the team this year.

GoChiefsHere is what the schedule will look like next year (thanks Loganbuckeye):
8/27 vs Lancaster
9/03 @ Pick North
9/10 vs Hamilton Township
9/17 @ Jackson *
9/24 @ Marietta *
10/1 vs Gallia Academy *
10/8 vs Warren *
10/15 @ Zanesville
10/22 @ Portsmouth *
10/29 vs Chillicothe *
* indicates league games. -
GoChiefsGlad to see Z'ville gets their game at home this year..that way we don't have to hear them crying about that all next season.
-
coyotes22Not a Chieftain, but, Good Luck next year!!!!!!
-
PaladinLooking at the schedule, I see at least a 7 win season and 8 wins is possible. That could be good enough for another SEOAL title and another trip to the playoffs. Lots to play for again next year.
-
GoChiefsWhat games do you see Logan possibly losing?
-
BoomhauerI see them losing to Lancaster and Pick North right off if those teams are healthy, them teams have some good players coming back, Norths reserves looked really strong against Logan, those players will be playing varsity next year,,,be nice to see Logan get a running threat going again where passing is not so predictable keeping speedy defenses off balance, the spread is good against slow teams though....I see Portsmouth being the top challenger to Logans SEO dominance...
-
GoChiefsI think Logan will top Lancaster again this year..they are losing some top guns as well are they not? But if they play like they did the 2nd half of there season last year..I think your correct on that one..I think they would have given us a game last year had we not caught them in Week 1. I looked on the Pick North website..they have 25 players graduating..so I don't think there going to be the same kind of animal this year. So they game is definitely winnable. As for the league..definitely agree with Portsmouth..of course I'd say Jackson will be in the mix this year as well. If Warren keeps improving you can't count them out either. Should be a great season in 2010.
