Phase II of the Whitmer Stadium improvements have begun.
Dirt is moving now in preparation of the new locker rooms, concession stand, restrooms and ticket booth at the south end of the stadium.
The north end ticket, restroom and concession building will soon follow.
New stadium lights is also a part of the project.

The planned completion is just before the opening of the 2010 football season.

Countdown for the season opener (Aug 27) is 163 days!!

Can't wait to see the improvements to an already great facility! Whitmer Memorial is one of my favorite places to watch a game.

It sure is Irish! ; )
The task is a huge one to complete. Trying to coordinate all the construction activities in the stadium along with track practices and events, soccer practices, football practices etc... All the coaches have to accommodate and alter their normal schedules according to the construction needs.

How is this going to affect the Whitmer Gold Relay this Saturday, if at all?
  • jm71witmr
I am not sure that it will affect the events. There is no work being done on the track. The majority of work now being done is in the south end of the stadium. The foundation work for that building which is the locker room, concession stand restrooms and ticket booth area is in progress. The Shot and discus throwing will probably take place on the NE portion of the campus. I don't believe the long jump has been relocated yet. It all depends on the progress in construction this week.

I'll check on it more this week and find the plan.
