Toledo City League Woes!!!
-
Seymour ButtsI like that league!
I guess I wasn't more direct with my question earlier. What is going to happen with the 2010 football season? Any chance that TPS cuts fall sports this late into the year? -
rmolin73I doubt that they will cut fall sports other than the fresmen teams they are already cutting.

This is the ideal fit for all the members involved minus the obnoxiously long trip to Lima.Keith wrote:

Fremont Ross

Oregon Clay
Toledo Central Catholic
Toledo St. Francis
Toledo St. Johns
Toledo Whitmer
...don't be suprised to see this league in the very near future. Sandusky will be joining the Northern Ohio League. -
sjmvsfscs08That league will never happen.
For starters, the Catholics enjoy their position at the top of the league. There are many benefits to beating the crap out of the TPS schools every year. The Catholics get to rest their starters and give the backups experience to add depth, as 85% of the time it's merely a scrimmage. They maintain a level of clear athletic superiority in the city, which bodes well for their recruiting. If you stop demolishing the TPS schools on a weekly basis and they form their own league, that champion (most likely Rogers) dominates and becomes a major player in the area akin to Whitmer. While they may not get a lot of cash from the attendance of these games, they also save boatloads of cash by not having to drive to Fremont, Findlay, Lima for games. It's expensive to bus freshmen baseball across NW Ohio.
Also I don't think Clay would want to join that. They feel like they are having a tough time competing in the City League and are more of an NLL fit, that feeling will only be exacerbated if they don't have the easy games against TPS schools anymore and must face the likes of Fremont Ross, Findlay and Lima Senior.
If I were a betting man, I'd bet this is your league in five years.
-Combine Libbey, Scott, and Woodward into the centrally-located Scott building.
Bowsher
Central Catholic
Clay
Findlay
Rogers
Fremont Ross
Scott
St. Francis/St. Ursula
St. John's/Notre Dame
Start
Waite

Do you care to retract your opening statement in any way shape or form?

Wow. We've been posting this 8 (10 including girls) team league on the old and new website for years and to see it now in print is funny.Seymour Butts wrote: Do you care to retract your opening statement in any way shape or form?

sjmvsfscs08"We're not in a rush, but you have to look at the reality of it." That's basically the mentality of the schools.
Basically the situation is if TPS continues to ignore their management issues and not get their act together, they will let the ship sink and move on without them. But the Catholics would prefer to not bus the non-revenue teams out to places like Lima. They are sitting pretty in the TCL. And trust me they'd prefer to keep Rogers, Start, and Bowsher in their league. You have to understand the addition of Fremont Ross into the league and having Findlay denied was simply because they'd wait for Libbey to close. Everyone thought Libbey was closing, but sadly those at TPS don't want to make tough decisions.
I was wrong to say never. I immediately backtracked in a PM to irish_buffalo but didn't correct it here. Basically if this happens it's not because of how much better this league would be it's because the TPS is that stupid.
Can Fremont Ross even get out of the TCL? Will Clay and Lima enjoy being the bottom of the barrell? Will Rogers and Start grow to dominate the theoretical TPS league? How much of a budget increase will the Catholics want to put up with with all of these trips to Findlay, Lima, and Ross? Would the TPS turn around and not let their schools play the new conference?
I best scenario is TPS getting their stuff together and all will be well. -
KeithThe TPS has very little time to get their "stuff" together. My sources are telling me that this new league is not a matter of "if" but "when".

sjmvsfscs08I doubt football is profitable at Scott, Libbey, Woodward, and Waite.

SonofanumpMy question has always been, why not build a shared stadium at CYO complex on H-S road?
Parking is already there, they could push some of the CYO fields into the cornfield behind the complex. -

Did I read this correctly? Libbey is officially toast and the deficit increased to $39mil?
