OHSAA Accepting Finals Proposals for 2012

  I only post this because of a quote that Dan Ross makes.
  

  “There is no question that the football finals committee in Stark County has done an exceptional job over the years hosting our finals,” Ross said. “Virtually every team that has qualified for the championships raves about the outstanding manner in which they are treated and the hospitality that is extended. That committee’s experience and tradition in hosting the finals cannot be overlooked.
  
  “We do feel an obligation to the member schools, however, to periodically obtain proposals for the championships ... because of the prestige of this event and the continual statewide interest from organizations interested in serving as hosts.”

  I read that as "honestly, these things aren't moving, but we'll go through the motions to make people from Columbus and Cincinnati think that they have a chance so that they leave us alone for a few more years" (Which is fine with me, I personally find it quite amusing and think they are fine where they are).

  I think they should be spread out around the state (with apologies to the couple hundred that currently attend multiple games).

  Apparently the U. of Akron is going to make a bid. Their new stadium would be great for these playoffs. If two stadiums were needed, they could match with Fawcett or Kent State.

  Thank God! When I seen Fairwoods name on this thread, I thought for sure he would be arguing for the playoffs to be held at Harding stadium in Steubenville. My bad.

  No need to, Harding Stadium already hosts a bevy of playoff games.

  Harding Stadium was my second choice.

  It's more than just the stadium facilities that has the games where they are. The biggest sway in my opinion is the people. The number of volunteer hours that makes the weekend go saves the OHSAA a lot of money.
  
  Create a package with two stadiums of that caliber, that close together, with the number of volunteer hours provided and the OHSAA will take a serious look at it...otherwise there's no reason to move it elsewhere.
  
  They are not going to go somewhere that will cost them more money.

  I think that with the recent upgrades to Fawcett, that it is pretty much a lock that they stay there in some form.

  They're not going to move the games to Cincinnati or Cleveland because that would entail even more driving for a lot of teams. Columbus is the only remaining choice, but they really don't have the right facilities. Everyone has pretty much agreed that the 'Shoe is not ideal for high school football, even though some schools like Big Red brought sizeable crowds there during the 1980's. I believe Crew has grass, so that may eliminate them from consideration.
  
  All that's left is either Fawcett and PBTS or Fawcett and Akron or Akron and Kent. I really don't see KSU getting into the mix.

  They must have a class at Steubenville High School that teaches how to inject the words "Big Red" into any topic. Observe how the master has done it above.
  
  So sizeable would be 15,000 people instead of 5,000 people in Ohio Stadium? Hardly makes a dent and is an irrelevant point. Canton/Massillon are perfect for the OHSAA championships.

  I would love to see the finals in Columbus but the stadium issue prevents this. Akron is farther away for most of us, so I don't think there would be any argument. The games I have attended up there have been very well run. My only complaint is the weather and we don't have a dome so that won't change.

  They're not going anywhere. Tress has said on a few occasions he'd love for them to be in The Shoe for recruiting purposes, but after seeing old films and a very, very empty stadium I hate the idea. Crew wouldn't be considered because of the grass field. Plus, they're not going to fill that to capacity either.

  Big Red played in the Shoe on 5 different occasions, and while it was fun and all, the stadium was empty and the field seemed really far from the seats.
