Glenville to stop using volunteer assistants.

Now maybe he will follow OHSAA rules.

What OHSAA rule did Glenville ever break?

It is not uncommon for a school to have an unpaid assistant. I agree with the Cleveland Public Schools that it is wrong to have an assistant who doesn't go through the certification process like all others.

"..."They're good people, but a lot of them aren't certified in CPR and background checks aren't being done," Jackson said. "If something happens to an athlete or student under the supervision of a volunteer, the school district can and will be sued." ..."

The certification process is a requirement of the OHSAA.

I just don't get not being allowed to have volunteer coaches. I can understand forcing them to have CPR training and backgroud checks. Even at their own expense. If they do that would be the problem?

I've seen middle school teams with more unpaid assistants than 4.

Amazing. It is state law that all coaches whether paid or volunteer most have background checks, a PAC, and CPR.

I don't think it is a state "Law" but I do believe it is an OHSAA mandated rule.

Scarlet Fever.. I don't think it would be a problem having assistant coaches if they had the proper certifications.

Seems like an attempt to slow the Tarblooders down. Sounds like a "crying" opposing coach caused all the hoopla. I agree with CPR training and background checks, but to dismiss "volunteer" assistants entirely is a stretch.

No wonder Cleveland City Schools aren't competitive. A Head Coach and 4 assistants...not much value there. Hell, most DIV schools have more than 4 assistants. I guess CCS thinks this levels the playing field. I doubt this will slow Glenville's League dominance down, but it just might slow down their playoffs chances every year. Jealousy and envy does strange things...even in Cleveland.

I read about Glenville playing STA from Florida next year. My guess is...STA will have more than 4 assistants on their staff. Could be why they are in the top 5 nationally...every year.

I guess maybe that's the point.
