Maple Heights def. Toledo St. Francis 34-21

newarkcatholicfanGlad to see M.H. was able to hold on for the huge win.
-
buckeyefalls150 fans from MH? No. I was on their sideline and they easily had way more than that. It's a big stadium. 500 - 700 I'd say.
By the way, a little write up on how St. Francis dominated the first half, but still trailed 20-7 at halftime is now up at www.ohsn.org
A Full game story should be up in the a.m. -
Dogruff SnauserGreat Job this year Knights! Congrats to the SFS coaching staff for excellent work with our young men. Next year should be unreal with Justin Chandler as Quarterback and the returning line.
Congratulations Knights on a very fine season! -
Dash RiprockI told you guys the Mustangs weren't to be taken lightly...Making it to the state semi-finals is no easy task especially with Maple Heights running through the best that the Toledo City League has to offer (Rogers, Central and St. Francis). I think Maple Heights has more and better athletes on the field than Southview did last season. It remains to be seen if they can pull it together for 2 more wins, but I wouldn't be suprised to see the Mustangs in the state final.

KeithCongrats to our friends at St. Francis on a fine season. We look forward to your visits to the Don for City League games in the near future!

Hey, Central Catholic had to play in the rain too you know. Stop giving excuses.Mr Pat wrote: You're right, St Francis went 10-1, beat Whitmer but because they got shut out against Central in the rain they are not all that good? -
TolCentralCathEven though SFS lost, heck of a season Knights. You guys proved a lot of people wrong this year (including me).
-
KnightXC1Buckeyefalls - No way did Maple have 500 fans. Not even close. 150-200 max but nowhere near 500.
TCC - Yea Central played in the same conditions and had one big play for a TD. The rest of the game was a stale mate. Central only got in great field position for the last field goal due to SFS having to go for it on 4th down. Mr. Pat was simply contradicting the point made by TCLfan that SFS was not too good. -
Arnold.I was at this game, and despite the fact that Maple Heights is a pretty good team, let's not get beyond the point that the officiating in this game was terrible at best.
Good luck to Maple though...if youre playing a team with a lot of speed on defense, you're screwed. -
buckeyefallsArnold, yeah, the officiating WAS horrible.
Two of MH's first half TDs should have come back, but there were also a lot of cheap shots by St. Francis that initiated 15-yard penalties on the Mustangs. Either way, MH was the better team and would have won.
Funny how Maple Heights only had that many fans but pre-game, they had already sold over 100 tickets before the day of the game.
I've been to years of games at Ross and know how many that visiting side holds, and when you tally up where the people sit, etc. they were definitely near 500. Include the band and I am VERY confident that there was at least 500, but that doesn't matter now, does it? -
KnightXC1^^ You can think all you want but even with the band, Maple had nowhere close to 500 fans on the visiting side. No more than 150-200 at best. And not sure what cheap shots SFS made. Maple hit SFS players 3-4 times after the whistle with no penalties being called. Maple is good but very undisciplined and that will cost them down the road.
-
rmolin73It was between 300-400 fans for Heights but in all seriousness what does it matter? Apparently they still came out and played. But SFS had too many cheap shots after the whistle. If Maple dis as well then the officiating was bad on both sides annd the better team won.

SFSFanNext year Chandler at QB? Say what? Do you not know about the jr. backup Yodzis? There is no way Chandler starts over Yodzis - that kid would've started this year except for Cromwell's penchant for starting seniors...and Tyler ain't half bad either! But I'd see Yodzis starting QB (and defensive back, like this year), probably Meinert second, and Chandler playing a key role on defense and maybe some clean up QB, as he did this year.
As far as attendence - I agree - didn't look like more than 200...but I didn't count the band. Officiating - absolutely awful - but it wouldn't have really changed anything - but those missed false starts and the non calls on the cheap shots after whistles...those refs shouldn't be officiating regional championships.
I hope MH gets their rears handed to them - the unsportsmanlike behavior after the game - where their little QB refused to shake anyones hands and looked to be mouthing off the whole time - and the coaching staff not doing anything to stop it. Using the "N" word to the SFS players (I guess it's okay if it's a black kid calling a white kid one, but heaven forbid it goes the other way).... Classless, inner city punks... -
W8nCSt.Francis can dish out the cheap shots all year but whine when they get a few done to them.As far as the racist name calling I have heard this throughout the Toledo City league of all the names the St. Francis players use.DO UNTO OTHERS.
-
SFSFanNever seen a single kid from SFS not shake hands and continue to mouth going through the line at the end of a game. But hey, maybe you understand that type of behavior - I don't know - heck, you could be one of the parents that condone and encourage that type of sportsmanship. I have heard about all the cheap shots...but don't see them penalized any more than anyone else...so either there is some deep rooted anger for having lost to them this season, or you know/see more than anyone else. I admit it wouldn't have changed the outcome, but the movement on the line was so obvious everyone except the refs seemed to see it on a few plays. And the cheap shots - 3-4 seconds AFTER the whistle...haven't see that all season from SFS. You've got examples and games, put them out there. The generalizations are just noise...
-
Bigred1995Congrats to Maple Heights! Keep it going!!!!
-
rmolin73I believe that #20 for St. Francis used the N word very frequently on Friday night. I doubt if the Maple Heights kids would lie about it. I did not want to believe from a Whitmer fan that St. Francis was dirty but they were. If they can dish it out then they need to expect to get it back. Good job calling Heights kids thugs? What does that make the St. Francis kids? I think that you are a little upset that their "little QB" ran all over the Frannies. Maybe there was a reason why he didn't shake their hands? You ever thought about that? Nevertheless quit your whining and move on.

You are entitled to your opinion and you could be right (I haven't seen Maple Heights play), but let's wait to see how they finish the season before you say they have better athletes than a team that went 15-0 and had only 2 close games all year long (Regional finals and state finals).Dash Riprock wrote: II think Maple Heights has more and better athletes on the field than Southview did last season. I'll guarantee though that Maple Heights was nearly as disciplined as Southview of last season.
As to this thread, great season SFS. I was hoping they could go all the way and keep the D2 State title in NW Ohio. Better luck next season!
To Maple Heights, good luck throughout the rest of the playoffs. -
SFSFanrmolin - you crack me up - you are such a big man!! Was your team playing in a regional final? No? Didn't think so. SFS has moved on - it's finally on to an indoor sport - and after some of the crappy Friday nights, I am happy about that. We went further than anyone thought we would, played longer than anyone else in the city league, and had a great year. And yeah, that little QB did run all over us (or around us), just like he did to Rogers and CCHS. Don't think I ever used the word "thugs"...maybe punks? I'd have to go back and look at my post. I don't think I was wearing a zoot suit, so thug isn't really in my everyday vocabulary! LOL!!
And, just curious - how do you define dirty? Are you on the field? Or are you just taking the word of someone on the wrong end of the losing score earlier in the season?? And you doubt if a Maple Heights player would stretch the truth? It's great someone has so much faith in what a player from an opposing team says and yet doesn't back up a team from their own league. I guess there will always be haters and those willing to believe the worst they can find on a team they will never like. It's all good - games over - and I'm sure there was plenty of trash talking going both ways in that game Friday night...nobody from SFS is complaining - I'm certainly not a student...they left it on the field after the final whistle. Was simply pointing out the lack of class in the handshake line...and why I want them to lose in the next game. My own opinion, brother!!
On to basketball....whoo hoo!!! -
Dash Riprockdw,
I announced Southview's Regional Final win over Medina Highland last year, and Maple Heights 2nd round win over Central Catholic this year. Up in the box, I have coaches and sportscasters all around me when I'm calling the game, plus everything I see, I see through wide angle binoculars...The comments I hear in the booth confirm my statements.
Southview had a fantastic team last year, but I like feel that Maple Heights is a D-1 caliber school, in D-2 clothing. Maple Heights reminds of me of Brookhaven from a few years ago after they put a pasting on Avon Lake.
Additionally, Maple Heights gets very fired up before the games and they will let you know they are in the building...I spoke to a couple of Maple Heights kids after their game (bout their sledgehammer and chain) with Central and they were most respectful and courteous to our staff and facilities people. -
2quik4uLike the poster above me I was also at the Central Maple Heights game and there weren't any unsportsmanlike penalties during the game and there wasn't any extracurricular activity after the plays, both teams were very respectful to each other. Watching the Sfs Maple Heights game on bcsn there plenty of instances were there was extracurricular activity #20 for Sfs was involved every time, like someone already stated he was most likely using the n word. This is another incident in a long line of occurrences over at Sfs. There is a reason no one in the city likes you, you are a bunch of racist and elitist assholes.
-
rmolin73Thank you, thank you, thank you 2quik4u that is the only point that I am trying to make but it seems as if SFSFan is in denial. No my team (Lowndes) did not make it to the regional final they were knocked out in the second round by Camden 10-7. So therefore I don't give a rats ass about your league! Now I do like Southview because that is my fiances alma mater and I have enjoyed watching them these past few years. Thugs, punks what ever name you called the Maple Heights kids the same can hold true for SFS. You also brought up what Heights players were saying and doing and you want us all to believe that SFS kids were perfect angels? Like I had stated #20 was involved constantly he continued to get in other players faces. On the play wher #4 Stubbs broke his tackle for his second touchdown #20 gets off of the ground proceeds to walk up to #10 from Maple Heights and gets in his face. #10 pushes him away and #20 follows him. With that good old Jesuit education he should know better. The Central/Maple Heights game was classy kids patting each other on the helmets, helping each other up etc. Maybe SFS should take a page out of their book.

The cheap shots placed upon the transfer from SFS to Whitmer were inevitable. You can trey to hide it all you want, but re-watch in on BCSN. You can clearly see many players attempting stuff after the plays. You can even see a shot of #20 from SFS grabbing the lower region of #34 from Whitmer. So don't give me this B.S. You are clearly someone who has no idea what they are talking about and should just rid yourself from sports completely.SFSFan wrote: Never seen a single kid from SFS not shake hands and continue to mouth going through the line at the end of a game. GoChiefsGames over boys..let's move on. Starting to get a little ridiculous.

SVCougar1978Maple Heights 2009 would not even have made the playoffs in DII R6 in 2008. They could not have defeated any of the playoff teams in R6 in 2008. DII is much weaker this year. SV defeated Cincinnati Anderson. Basically the same Anderson team (less Andrew Norwell..maybe the best player in the entire state) that made it to the R4 final and almost beat Elder this year. Give me a break on the Maple Heights overkill.
SVs 2008 DBs (Shaun Joplin, Bernard Pinckney, Jimmy Hall and Allen Gant...oh...by the way..four DI athletes) are all about 6-2 with great speed and quickness. The MH kids are what? 5-6?
