Toledo City Athletic League/Northern Lakes League
-
rmolin73Due to low TCL and NLL participation on the huddle so far a few suggested that we combine the two. Please keep it civil and this is not a thread to compare the two. My take on the league races.
Toledo City League
1. Central Catholic- Returns alot
2. Whitmer- Big losses on offense but defense remains stout
3. Rogers- Another season without playing the private schools
4. St. Johns- They return alot as well but offense was very inconsistent
5. St. Francis- Lose alot of key players but offensive line play helps
6. Start- Could it be another underachieving year
7. Bowsher- Coaches second year lets see if he can turn it around
8. Clay- Size hurts them when going against the big boys they need to trade schedules with Rogers
9. Libbey-N/A
10. Waite-N/A
11. Scott-N/A
12. Woodward-N/A
Northern Lakes League
1. Sylvania Southview- Big losses on defense could their talented sophmore class be a factor? Offensive keys remain
2. Anthony Wayne- 1/2 of the wing-t returns but will the loss of Donnal be too much
3. Springfield-second year coach new offensive coordinator
4. Maumee-big losses due to graduation but leading rusher returns
5. Perrysburg-size is there but do they have the athletes
6. Bowling Green- no one knows what team you will see
7. Sylvania Northview-not sure if their offense can win games
8. Rossford- last year in the NLL I know they're glad. -

I think we will see a much more consistent bowling green team this year because of the coaching change. I still have no idea who the coach will be but i think that the high school will pick a good onermolin73 wrote:

2quik4uWhat does Bg have returning?
-
irish_buffalormolin, nice job.
Everything you've said is spot on in my opinion. CCHS will be the favorite in the TCL with SF, Whitmer, and SJ lurking close behind. Central had a freshman team that would have beaten many varsity teams from the area.
I got a feeling Southview returns atop the NLL this season. Their team will not be as good as they have been in the past three seasons but then again no one else in the league will be either. Just a case of bad luck and let down for the Cougars last year. -
TolCentralCathGood idea with combining the two.
Central Catholic's biggest factor they have to deal with is finding a new quarterback. They also lose a lot on defense. But their freshman team was dominant this season so they should have some great athletes moving up to fill those voids. The offensive line for the Irish will be very good as they return everyone including Kyle Cameron and Chris Boles. Running game will be very good again with Caleb Goings returning.
I think Whitmer will be the Irish's biggest challenger. SJJ will also put up a fight. Not too sure about SFS because they lose a lot. -
SVCougar1978Irish Buffalo is right about the NLL. SV should be the favorite even though they have a lot of questions about next years team. Right now I think I would have to guess that AW will be SV's closest competitor.
Who will be this years' SFS in the TCL? No one expected SFS to be as good as they were last year. I would think CCHS, SFS and Whitmer are all capable of winning the TCL. I think I would pick Whitmer as the favorite just based on so many returning big play defensive players.
Does anyone think there can be a SV 2008, CCHS 2005 or SFS 2001 from the DI/DII schools next year? Every team out there should make that their goal and work their collective butts off to make it happen. -
irish_buffaloTo be completely honest, and with the trend of Ohio HS football at the moment (run oriented offense making big comeback), CCHS has about the closest chance to be a Southview 2008/CCHS 2005/SF 2001.
The Irish return Caleb Goings, who should be better than last season behind what might be one of the best offensive lines to ever come out of the TCL. If the Irish can reload on defense, which Im sure they can with the cupboard being as full as it is, and with their staff. I firmly believe Hanenkrath or Schneider will step in at QB and be just fine. Keep in mind, Dempsey really hasnt had a tall QB since Harmon of 2002. Walender, Klingofer(spl? kid from Rossford), and Janzen where all 5'11ish. They all did great but that length certainly helps.
Who will step up this next season and be the next Scott Loy, Dan Sanzenbacher, Rodney Gamby type? Goings? -

Unfortunately Joey Schneider transfered back to his school in Indiana. I have heard talk about Hanenkrath. He's tall but has no meat on him. I have also heard talk about Luc Meacham. But who knows. Hopefully they'll be able to get it together, which I believe they will.irish_buffalo wrote: To be completely honest, and with the trend of Ohio HS football at the moment (run oriented offense making big comeback), CCHS has about the closest chance to be a Southview 2008/CCHS 2005/SF 2001.

irish_buffaloI didnt know that about Schneider. Too bad for us fans, kid was a player.
The Irish have kids in the waiting that will get the job done. -
SVCougar1978With addition by subtraction of Rossford leaving (no offense...just based on last couple of seasons and what is expected in 2010) and the addition of Napoleon (regardless of being only DIII) the NLL will be much more competitive in 2011 as a league overall. Napoleon always plays a very impressive non-league schedule. Will the best TCL teams schedule Napoleon? A CCHS/Napoleon series is intriguing to me (albeit not as intriguing as SV/CCHS).
-
oldtripleBased upon Napoleon's performance in recent years, their entry into the NLL should most certainly make the league a lot more interesting. Again this is no slight to Rossford. The Bulldogs have just lost out in the numbers game along with the fact it appears the athletic talent level has fallen off in the past decade as well.

TolCentralCathHow far is Napoleon from Toledo?
-
oldtripleCentralCath......
I can't say absolutely for sure, but I would think the distance is about 45 miles give or take a few. Guess you could always map quest it. -
Swamp FoxUnfortunately, I think that rmolin is absolutely right. It seems that, at least in the NLL, it is watered down as far as the number of people actively involved. That is true in basketball as well as football. Perhaps some of it is that we are all doing many things, and our time is valuable to all of us and taking time to regularly surf the sites and post becomes a drag, but for whatever reason, I think rmolin might be on to something.

lhs2ndbaseWhat year was Missler, the QB for Whitmer this year along with the two running backs that they used? Also who does Rogers have in line to replace EJ Tucker and the rest of the city league looks like will be breaking in new QB's as well.
-
jm71witmrAll are seniors.
We lost a good qb in Missler.
All the skill positions are wide open.
I hope someone steps up or in! -

rmolin73To keep things going and to not allow this thread to become stagnant let's list the impact players for our respective teams. These are just my thoughts.
Sylvania Southview
QB- Denard Pinckney 6"2 195 second year under center for Denard his arm strength and his elusiveness makes him a dangerous QB.
WR/FS- Allen Gant 6"2 200 Gant is a special talent starting at Southview as a freshman he will pretty much take over the leading receiver role with the departure of Jimmy Hall (Northwestern) and will also take over Jimmy's FS position. The latter part of the year Gant matured and gave us a glimpse of what a dominating player he will be.
TE- Connor Chuba 6"4 205 Connor will be more of a threat due to his size and athleticism he has very soft hands and is hard to bring down.
RB/CB/KR- Ja Bowers 5"9 165 Bowers is by far the fastest player at Southview and his running style is very dangerous for his opponnents the combination of him and Pinckney will spell trouble for many teams. Also a special teams nightmare.
G- Ray Okdie 6"4 310 Okdie is quite a load and from what I'm hearing is pretty quick for his size.
G/LB- Jay Fisher 5"10 195 I like this guy to be more defense than on the offensive line very fast defensively and tackles well where the ball is he is.
WR- David Renner 6"6 185 good hands and size can jump and at 6"6 there won't be many DB's that can jump with him.
DE- Anthony Quinn 6"2 200 this kid proved last year that he can play his wing span is pretty scary may move to OLB.
DT- Hasan Mansour 5"10 190 Southview likes smaller defensive tackles and this guy plays very big.
SS-Michael Gross 5"11 185 this kid can flat out hit some of the hits I have seen him lay have made me uncomfortable.
RB/CB/KR JQ Bowers 5"10 170 a little bit bigger than his older brother will more than likely back him up at RB and play the other corner spot also one of the fastest players at Southview.
LB- Kenny Reau 5"11 200 another hitter who has a knack for where the ball is. -
chs71Napoleon HS is 30 miles from Rt. 24 - 475/23 interchange.

rmolin73Does anyone care to give any insight on the impact players?
