2010 Week 3: Tol St Francis Desales -at- Hilliard Davidson

  T - Andrew Stanford
  T - Jim Sliwinski
  
  John Lonchyna would see some time at guard, Jordan Lonchyna saw time at TE (caught a TD from that position in the title game but Calcamuggio was the starter), Scott Gunn saw some time at WR, but otherwise that was it on offense. There were seniors on that team like Alex Glonek (DE), Eric Krieg (OG), Mike Degnan (DT), Shane Yangham (DL), Jamie Whaley (CB), Adam Links (LB), Chris Peer (WR), Josh Harman (C), and Mark Chapman (OG) that were always forgotten amongst Gamby and that talented Jr. class.
  
  Next years offense has...
  
  Nate Beach (FB), Hunter and Cam Stanley (G&T), Andrew Villalovos (T), Nate White (TE), and Zach Kolacki. Those are starters.
  
  2002's defense returned Fender, Lamy, Lonchyna, Schrader, and Gunn. So, on defense they returned 1 more.
  
  Overall - next season the Knights return 10. In 2002 the Knights returned 8.
  
  The only other time the Knights returned anything close to that much was in 93' and 97'. But yeah, I must not have been around.

  i believe that st francis should have another pretty good team next year. they have a very able offensive line and a good running back in jake wawrzyniak. they should be able to fill MOST of the spots in their defense. (not loy in the secondary unfortunatley)

  Cincinnati Anderson 2008/2009 proved that the difference between the best DI and DII teams in the last few years is very small or non-existent. Anderson finished in the top eight in DI in 2009 (ahead of St. X, Colerain, Moeller and others) after finishing as the DII state runner-up in 2008. Anderson was basically the same team in 2008 that they were in 2009....probably better in 2008 with a healthy Andrew Norwell and Kyle Slater all year long.
  
  The point is do not assume just because HD is the defending DI champ and St. Francis is a DII regional runner-up that HD will beat SFS by 24+, or at all. I will admit I do not know much about what HD has coming back this year and I know only what I read about SFS. IF SFS is a top state contender in DII this year (I do not know if they are or not) then expect SFS to play HD close or even defeat them, regardless of how high HD ranks in DI.

  No they weren't, lovethefall you really need to let go of talking about SV 08 champs, they won the state title good for them great accomplishment, but this was two years ago and your still trying to hype them up. As a dad I understand your happy but man you really need to let it go.

  I do not need you to tell me anything. I assure you that I know much more about Anderson than you do. SV 2008 does not need me to hype them up. I was not even talking about them. Anderson people have told me several times that the 2008 team was the best team of the last three years. You are a CCHS fan and a SV hater. I understand that. I was simply stating that DI and DII are not that much different the last few years. Last year the best team was probably the DIII state champ. Sounds like you need to let go of the fact that SV would have beat CCHS very soundly in 2008.
  
  Back the the point of this thread. I will restate that if SFS is a real DII contender in 2010 then they most definitely can beat HD this year.

  I was happy Sv won it. It made region 6 better and more importantly our community better, but you take it to a completely different level. Almost everyone of your posts has something having to do with Sv winning the state title and it gets annoying.

  2Quik...I believe you. I was also very happy when CCHS and SFS won state titles. It is better for our community. I can see how you think I was talking up Anderson to boost SV. That truly was not my point in this instance. I do believe that DI and DII have been very close in talent the last few years and yes, that includes SV. But my point was that IF SFS is a top DII team in 2010 then they will compete with or even defeat HD. I hope they do beat them. I always root for every NW Ohio team when they play teams from other areas of Ohio or out of state teams. However, most times you are probably correct. As a dad from that SV 2008 team I do not think I will ever come down from that amazing high. Frankly, I do not want to. But I do understand your point about my consistent focus becoming annoying. Believe it or not my goal on these forums is to make friends that love high school football the way I do. Especially people that love NW Ohio football. I have said before that I have very good friends (parents and players) from most of the NLL and TCL teams. I will admit to being very sensitive about how little respect NW Ohio football receives from the rest of the state. DI is one thing. But SV, CCHS and SFS have proven that this area is as good as any in Ohio DII football. Hopefully in the future I will be less annoying to you.

  Had to jump in on this one, SVCougar1978 is precisely correct on this subject. SFS success this past season was largely due to the "band of brothers" and their ability to make things happen. They have lost NOTHING through graduation and in fact are returning a more diverse and mature group of guys. The o-line in made up of big strong, focussed ass kickers. The skilled position bench is deep as well with guys that can play multi postions and replace the Loy senario no problem.They are returning some defensive players that are are quick, tough and determined to make anyones team a true nightmare this year. If SFS can "shake up" the program by bringing in "new blood" with new ideas and expertise, the formula for pure dynamite exists. Do they have a chance to beat Hilliard? ABSOLUTELY YES!! In fact I look for them to stuff it right down their throats. As long as SFS can keep their players onboard and not lose any through other school recruitment, I see a very good year for them.

  SFS will still be a very good team this year as they do bring back a lot of talented kids. Will be interesting to see if or any changes come from Cromwell not coaching anymore.

  Let me be the devils advocate here. Toledo St. Francis is no where near the level as Cincinnati Anderson. Yes St. Francis did have a good year last year but come on guys. Hilliard Davidson slowed down Glenville the fastest team in the state and one of the fastest in the country. They have been one of the only public schools to win a D1 title and they have done it twice in a 5 year span. As far as contending next year once again the will have to go through Maple Heights the team that pretty much ran through the TCL. I'm not saying that St. Francis will not play a good game nor be in it. But with all the losses of several big play guys as well as the coach and defensive coordinator this year will have a big question mark on it.

  Region 6 was gutted after 2008. Maple Heights got totally outclassed by Turpin. But Region 6 could make a big come back in 2010. Will it be SFS, CCHS or somebody else? Who knows? Sure SFS has questions but right now every high school team has questions. In the DI champ game last year Glenville totally imploded. I still do not know how they lost that game. But high school kids are always unpredictable. That is what makes it so much fun.

  All due respect to Maple Heights, Rogers was not very good and benefited from a weak schedule. Maple also got 2 gifted no calls on touchdown plays against SFS which ended up being huge. Not say they may not still have won but those non calls were huge.
  
  Every team loses players every year and must replace them and programs like St. Francis have always been able to do that when people think they will be down. Davidson will be a tremendous challenge right off the bat but to think SFS will not be well prepared for them and be ready to play against a very good team is a bit of a stretch.
