Soccer a spring sport? Football numbers rise?
-
jacoI've seen Orrville's soccer team this year and trust me, there are no kids playing that sport who could contribute to the football program. There are two girls presently starting for Orrville's varsity boys' team. And the girls are more physical than the boys. That's about all you need to know.
And besides, spring soccer would cut into lacrosse season. We can't have our fringe non-revenue generating sports interfering with one another. -

Anybody who is physical is needed.jaco;1655192 wrote:I've seen Orrville's soccer team this year and trust me, there are no kids playing that sport who could contribute to the football program. Also, in all seriousness the girls programs are going to be studs for about the next 5 years or so. Support them because I think there will be a lot of winning and some trips to Columbus/Dayton. -

Some studies state the soccer has almost as many concussions as football...rrfan;1655181 wrote:Well it is not good for me to be in this discussion because I would rather shut my fingers in a car door than watch a soccer game so...
I think Soccer should be cancelled because the teach the kids to hit the ball off their head with no helmet and I am sure this will cause brain damage in the future. Therefore soccer should be cancelled starting today! -

typical homosexual thought process. SMH One of your best FB players EVER was a boy that wore tights. RIP Jack,Old Rider;1654958 wrote:And get rid of the sport that requires boys to wear tights and rub on each other! Da Bears! -

Wrestlers make great football players...they almost never miss a tackle.1_beast;1655313 wrote:typical homosexual thought process. SMH One of your best FB players EVER was a boy that wore tights. RIP Jack, -
Midstate01Why would football coaches want this? I thought soccer players were pussies?

75% is a ridiculous number. We have 20 on my team in high school, guaranteed the 75% would have played football over cc. That's probably not high enough.ccrunner609;1655101 wrote:This thread cracks me up. Soccer doesnt take the "football" type kids. If you move soccer to the spring, 75% of them would be running CC. In an average size school with 40 football players and 20 soccer players.....the football team might pick up 2-5 of those players.
As for the comment about making revenue......I run a CC and track program that makes some serious jack. -

I don't know that they would....bulletin board posters are a very different animal than coaches a lot of times.Midstate01;1655531 wrote:Why would football coaches want this? I thought soccer players were pussies? -
thavoiceFB is becoming more and more of a 'track meet' with 4-5 wideouts, alot of DB's to cover them and I absolutely think that there are more soccer players today (moreso than maybe 15 years ago) that would be a good fit on football teams.
Back in the day when it was 3 yards and a cloud of dust it was more just brute strength but now it is becoming more of a finesse game played on the edges. The games are won and lost on the lines, no doubt, but there is more of a premium for speed, quickness than there was before. -
Old RiderWe have 3 other kids on our soccer team right now (not including our kicker) who I feel could help or football team. One is also a wrestler, another also plays basketball, and the third played football all through middle school and was VERY good player, but chose soccer in high school.
3 doesn't sound like much, but that could be 5-6 positions being filled on a small roster at a D5 or smaller school! -
wkfanIf small high school football teams are hurting for numbers....why not play 8-man football like they do in other states?
Low numbers, lower the number of players needed. Problem solved. -
