CCRollyIs this the exclusive thread where you bash the coach and make dim-witted arguments that make no sense what-so-ever? Cool...looks like I found it.
-
RedRider1Nice spelling in the thread title. That's going to be hard to look at for the next 12 months.
We do have a QB, 2 RB's & 4/5ths of the line back...but all need to make strides in the offseason if next year is to be an improvement on this year. -
1_beastHey! I've been censored.

rrfanSo things have calmed down a little bit. I would like to have a serious discussion.
Pee Wee ball I believe is killing our numbers in 7th and 8th grade. In turn the numbers shrink even more in the HS level. Here is the my argument...if those kids have to wait to put the pads on until 7th grade they will all want to. Kids change a great deal from 3rd grade to 7th grade. These kids are "getting football out of their system" before they even get to "school sports". If you want to admit it or not the numbers are reflecting this. -

Without a doubt it is possible you are losing some kids early...youth tackle football is a touchy thing...too many coaches at that level go all hardass and try to relive the glory days. It must be kept fun at that age and everyone needs to be involved and have a position. It takes a lot of getting used to playing in pads. Most people who have never played don't realize the little things that hurt pretty bad...things like getting your fingers smashed between helmets, and if you end up on the ground having guys run on your legs. I'm sure this makes some kids who haven't developed a high pain tolerance yet give up the game before they even give it a chance.rrfan;1530464 wrote:So things have calmed down a little bit. Not to mention the ones that are playing a position in 3-6th grade that they will not play in 7th and 8th. I think this is a big part of the reason that numbers are down.iced earth;1530568 wrote:Without a doubt it is possible you are losing some kids early...youth tackle football is a touchy thing...too many coaches at that level go all hardass and try to relive the glory days. Old RiderKids get labeled as lineman at the Pee Wee age because kids weighing a specific weight are exempt from playing the skilled positions where they get to carry the ball. If I were a 10 year old and for two years only get to be a lineman why the heck would I want to play as a 7th grader only to be stuck on the line again and never get that chance to carry the ball?

Bingo! Therefore the numbers drop...Old Rider;1532201 wrote:Kids get labeled as lineman at the Pee Wee age because kids weighing a specific weight are exempt from playing the skilled positions where they get to carry the ball. I have to admit rrfan...I was a pee wee fan when they started the program and was still backing it through most of this season, but after talking to my brother and a couple of coaches, they all admitted that they would like to see pee-wee go away!rrfan;1532256 wrote:Bingo! A former player at Orrville (early 90's grad) talked to a coach from Coldwater and asked him..."Whats your guys' secret? How do you continue to produce good football teams"? The coach replied with a simple.."We don't have pee-wee!" He continued..."We want numbers and we want our kids to be hungry when they enter 7th grade". The coach also said that their are only 2 teams in the MAC that he knows of who have pee-wee programs and he said they are typically the bottom dwellers every year in the league!
Maybe its time to go back to exclusively flag football!! Worked for us in the 80's and 90's! -

what an outlandish statement! You mean go back to something that worked at Orrville?? I am sure RR1 would argue that Coldwater has just had 20 straight years of talent. Must be somethig in the water Out there no pun intendedOld Rider;1532266 wrote:I have to admit rrfan...I was a pee wee fan when they started the program and was still backing it through most of this season, but after talking to my brother and a couple of coaches, they all admitted that they would like to see pee-wee go away!

RedRider1I won't argue with that..but it's not THE ONLY reason. Look at the makeup of kids in Coldwater, lots of farm kids who know about hard work because they see it modeled by their parents...and when's the last time you heard of Coldwater boys soccer?? Guessing they aren't losing kids to other sports as much as we seem to be lately.
I would bet there's a better continuity between their pee wee program and the high school program. I think that could be done better here. Flag teams used to be coached by varsity players....that changed this year.
See RRN...I can let my guard down & have a logical discussion about something. It can actually be refreshing. You should try it. Would help your credibility. -

Yes...a good logical discussion...ruined by the last comment, (^^^)! It would also help your credibility.RedRider1;1532414 wrote:...See RRN...I can let my guard down & have a logical discussion about something. It can actually be refreshing. You should try it. Would help your credibility. -

A result of too many dad's wanting to "coach" their "superstar-son" to "super-stardom" rather than teaching the fundamentals at that age. Many children change as they get older, some lose weight, some gain weight, for some their skills sharpen while some diminish. Some are forced by their fathers to "man up" and play football even though they don't want to while some are made out to be "stars" that they aren't. Many men miss these things because all they know is that "they love football" and there can be nothing else without it!Old Rider;1532201 wrote:Kids get labeled as lineman at the Pee Wee age because kids weighing a specific weight are exempt from playing the skilled positions where they get to carry the ball. I believe that many of these various youth football, basketball, etc., leagues, camps and AAU only serve to provide some financial gain to those parents who "run" them and again, attempt to "feature" their child and/or their friends children. I think they miss the part where for some youth, they tend to get burnt-out and they lose interest in sports, especially football and basketball. -

With no attempt to disparage farmers and their kids at all...they aren't the only children that are taught a hard work ethic and they aren't the only families that mentor and model it for their children.RedRider1;1532414 wrote:I won't argue with that..but it's not THE ONLY reason. Soccer's a growing sport! Give it time, because you never can tell. -

Unfortunately there are numerous threads on this forum that does nothing but that.....CCRolly;1526697 wrote:Is this the exclusive thread where you bash the coach and make dim-witted arguments that make no sense what-so-ever? Cool...looks like I found it. -
RedRider1It's certainly growing in Orrville. Soccer can be played competitively at a much younger age than football.

"Stuck on the line"...for shame. If kids took a little more pride in their positions instead of all thinking they're quarterbacks the quality of football in this area would be greatly elevated beyond the crapfest I witnessed this season.Old Rider;1532201 wrote:Kids get labeled as lineman at the Pee Wee age because kids weighing a specific weight are exempt from playing the skilled positions where they get to carry the ball. very eye opening! So what is stopping us from getting this fixed? Coaches are against it, boys club flag football could get strong again, kids would be hungry to play in junior high. Win win!Old Rider;1532266 wrote:I have to admit rrfan...I was a pee wee fan when they started the program and was still backing it through most of this season, but after talking to my brother and a couple of coaches, they all admitted that they would like to see pee-wee go away!
