Orrville(4-0) at Mansfield sr(4-0)

  Riders never stopped...got beat by a very good team tonight. Everything you want is still there for you to take. Regroup and get back to work. There are more wins out there for this group and playoff dreams will be answered. Very proud of this Rider Team!

  The penalties and sloppy play from Orrville have got to stop. A penalty on the opening kickoff, late hit penalties out of bounds well after the play is over, these kinds of things don't help when you are already playing a good team. That team was just way better than Orrville but still the penalties, and lack of running an offensive play book is not good. I said the first four games what happens when we get down 2 or 3 scores? Well we saw the answer. NOTHING! This is the exact reason some of you on these threads have been pumping your chest and telling people to shut the hell up but this team has beaten some bad football teams. It won't get any easier next week.

  Whoa whoa lets settle down a bit. First of all no matter what we do right we lose that game! That was a very sound football team. I am not criticizing the offense at all other than the fact that coach threw in the towel at halftime and that was obvious by the play calling in the second half. Running Owens up he middle and having him get crushed every play while already hurt doesnt add up. I am just being realistic guys not criticizing. This team has overachieved all year long and should be very proud. Just sloppy last nite that is all but again sloppy or not we had no chance I just have a hard time with silly penalties. Spin it however you wish and call me whatever you wish but the coaches on the other side had a ton of intensity and that showed when the minor brawl broke out and the Mansfield coach gathered his team, had them take a knee and made them regain focus! That's the sign of a guy who gets it.

  Coming from a guy who goes on the Ohio St/Wisconsin thread and uses the "F" word I would say you are the joke! That must make you feel pretty cool huh??

  As the pre-season was underway and the news wasn't good regarding the number of players and the departures, my opinion was that we would win 1 or 2 games this year. After the final scrimmage, I revised that to 4 games, as it was apparent we had some freshmen and sophomores who showed they were ready to play. I think we all knew that this would be the start of a rough stretch. However, I did not count Triway and Lexington as 2 of the 4 wins. I felt we might come up with 2 wins against the likes of Madison, Clear Fork and Wooster. I believe that more than ever right now. If we can weather the storm over the next 2 weeks and stay healthy, I think 6-4 is a possibility. If we do that, I have to believe we make the playoffs. If we get to the playoffs, given our schedule, we can make a good run.
  
  I am impressed with the kids. I also think the coaching staff has probably had their finest year since Doug took over, given what we were facing coming into this season, the X's and O's are a distant second to discipline and teamwork...and that is why their are a whole list of football geniuses at the college and pro level who can't win...they can't motivate athletes to stop playing for the name on their back. Perhaps the 1-9 season was a blessing in disguise...a reminder that very little separates a lousy team from a very good team.

  good post. You are right. Beat the teams you should and you will be fine. For the other games play as hard as you can and see what happens

  What did you want them to do on offense? Did you want them to all of the sudden air it out. Sr would have knocked out our QB. His best option was to run Owens. If they would have went to the air it would have been worse.

  something different I guess. Either way it wouldn't have mattered just wanted to see a different look on the offensive side in the 2nd half-otherwise why not just take the starters out?

  It was a good thing for Orrville to win the games they did as that may help them to get in the playoffs which seems to always land them a favorable seeding against some considerably weaker teams usually.

  Final was 45-0. No that does not make Orrville a "very bad team" I never thought that Orrville would go undefeated as did nobody else. All Friday the Mansfield Sr. game meant to me is that Orrville got beat by a very good big school. Nothing more nothing less. It also does not change my opinion of this team, coaches and players. They are grinding, and working and it shows on the field. That is all I have ever asked them to do. I feel that they are going to have a few rough games the next few weeks. However, a couple of wins and they get into the playoffs and that is the goal.

  Not too many WEAK teams in the region we are in this year. IF...we make it to the playoffs and end up in a 5-8 spot we likely travel to a Coldwater, Patrick Henry, O-G, Loudonville....Not sure any those qualify as a WEAK team.

  Don't worry OldRider Series has be in hiding for four weeks, but you know a lose will always bring him out.

  The goal is still there. I know the bar can get changed after a 4-0 start but if you were told in early August that after half of the season we'd be 4-1...you'd take it 100 times out of 100, so let's be real about our expectations.
  
  We got beat by a playoff caliber team that is 3 divisions bigger than us. You tip your hat & move on. No shame in that.
  
  And regarding how Senior's coaches gathered their team after the near brawl...I saw Orrville's coaches do the same thing...guessing the refs told both coaches to get control. Credit to both coaching staffs for not letting that get out of hand.
  
  West Holmes will be no picnic either...

  The "big three" this year in the OCC are Senior, West Holmes and Ashland, with Senior head and shoulders better than the rest.
  
  Watched Wooster-Madison. Madison is not very good this year. As in, probably the cellar dweller. They literally didn't throw the ball once through the first three and a half quarters. I know they've had injuries, but it was painful to watch. I think Lexington is slightly better than them. I have no doubt Orrville makes the playoffs. But I also see likely losses to West Holmes and Ashland. The Wooster game will be a toss up. Never know with rivalries. Wooster is the same as ever - a Jekyl and Hyde team. Daugherty, I believe, had just two TD's through the first four games. He threw five against Madison.
  
  I'll guarantee an Orrville win against Madison, though. Clear Fork I'm not sure about. I'm guessing better than Madison and Lexington, but probably a middle of the pack team. Should be able to handle them.

  special thanks to the Mansfield coach who grabbed #51 out of the hand shake line, after a blow out and with the heated sideline exchange in the third quarter he didn't have to say anything, but thanks for the nice words.
