RiderwannabeThoughts on this game
-
Old RiderWe need to clean some things up with the O-line and give Luke some more time, especially the play-action stuff. He seemed to have someone in his face everytime. I am sure Northwest will see that in film and do the same. At some point we have to stretch the defense downfield and if we can do that it will make our running game that much better!
-
RedRider1Northwest has played two teams in Cloverleaf & Poland that I'd wager are a little better than John Marshall & Triway.....so this will be our toughest test yet.
The also will probably be the first good defense we've played all season. I worry if we have any struggle with the run game, and have to rely on the passing game, we may struggle to score points.....we just need to polish up that pass game a little bit and try to stretch the defense some too.
Northwest shot themselves in the foot against Poland with 2 lost fumbles and 2 INT's....their QB can run it and throw it. They have 9 startes back on offense from last year.
They have a tough stretch in the middle of their schedule (New Philly, St V & Jackson) just like we do...so you're going to have 2 very motivated teams.
Should be a real nice night and I'm sure they'll bring a big crowd....hope we can do the same. Would like to see the town behind these kids after a 2-0 start. -
rrfanI want to see two things improve dramatically this week. 1.) I would like for the shotgun snap to get to Luke clean and in the same location each time. The extra time it take him to track down the ball is not helping him any. 2.) O-line!!!! You have to block someone on a pass play. You have a young QB that needs you to help him out and give him some time.

Old RiderNorthwest will not only be playing on our turf for the first time, but two years ago the scoreboard was delayed and wasn't even up yet for our week one game against them. So they are seeing essentially a brand new Red Rider Stadium for the first time. I am sure it will be a packed house.
FYI...if you happen to go to Jerry's before the football game be advised that there is usually a LARGE group of Northwest fans there. The last several years that we have played them at home...that group has been there and it was packed. -
Drums of WarI for one am excited to see the new stadium! The Poland game was hard to watch as we all but shut down their run game (Coverleaf's also) You WILL have to throw effectively to beat this team as the front is atheletic and active. This should be a 2-0 team coming into this week, however some untimely turnovers and suspect play calling gave away a fairly well played game against a perrennial playoff power last week. I much prefer this matchup in week 3 as both teams have ironed out some kinks, and there is less chance of it being 90 degrees at kickoff!

It may barely get to 60 on Friday. FOOTBALL WEATHER!! -
Red Rider Nation
That is part my fault -I always invite some real good friends from Canal Fulton to Jerry's before the game. I just did the same yesterday at our baseball game-sorry!Old Rider;1497879 wrote:Northwest will not only be playing on our turf for the first time, but two years ago the scoreboard was delayed and wasn't even up yet for our week one game against them. rrfanIs there any NW fans on here? They used to have a big following...

The fans I have met in there have always been respectful. I recall several years ago that they started chanting "Lets Go Indians" and Orrville fans started chanting back.."R-I-D....E-R-S" it was fun.Red Rider Nation;1498018 wrote:That is part my fault -I always invite some real good friends from Canal Fulton to Jerry's before the game. I know that Jerry always enjoys when Northwest is in town! -
RedRider1We've won games in this series because of some NW miscues. There's been a blowout by each side since 2006, but usually this is a close game.
If we can execute like we've done in the first 2 weeks, we'll be in the ball game. I like playing Triway then NW. Similar offensive styles.
Same gameplan as last few weeks...get a lead, control the ball & make stops on D. -
NWIndianNation01Posters are so spread out now. I rarely check on here since the evil site became free again. Not to mention many have fallen off due to our terrible year last year. If we can get on a roll this year then I am sure some will resurface.
In regards to this game, I agree with Drums, you will have to have a very successful passing attack. If your O line is struggling though it could be a long night for your QB as we have a few guys with very strong blitzing skills. Note though that our def backs need a lot of work this week, primarily just look for the ball when the receiver starts to turn for it. Tht alone could have saved the game for us last year.
Not sure if I am ready for "football weather".
GO INDIANS! -
Old RiderI do not agree. I do not think we will have to throw it much more than we have or try to stretch the field anymore than we have. We are 2-0 because we have had a pretty good running game and our defense has played well. We held a good Triway offense to a total of 167 yards and two of those plays accounted for 80-90 of that. I think if we play good assignment football, own the time of possession, and limit turnovers (which we have 0 in two games) I think we will be just fine.
However, this game always seems to have a big play when it comes to special teams. Last year we blocked a punt that resulted in a TD and last time NW was in Orrville they returned the opening kick for 6!
It should be an exciting game!

Problem is, there aren't any quality center coaches in Wayne County...anywhere..
None of those guys played in the shotgun, so their instruction is strictly from books and videos. The best way for a shotgun center to learn his trade is from another shotgun center. And then repetition... Lots of repetition. It has to be muscle memory like shooting a free throw. -

I can get better at shooting free throws by shooting a lot of them. I can't imagine this is much different. I agree a great center coach would help but that is not going to happen.jaco;1499301 wrote:Problem is, there aren't any quality center coaches in Wayne County...anywhere..

NWIndianNation01Still my opinion that Orrville will need to have a solid passing game to beat us this year as we have pretty well stopped two very good running backs so far.

Should be a good test because I have yet to see us look decent in the passing game this year.NWIndianNation01;1499406 wrote:Still my opinion that Orrville will need to have a solid passing game to beat us this year as we have pretty well stopped two very good running backs so far. -
rrfanGame Day Riders!! Perfect night for football. This game would be a big one for the Riders and one that they need for possible playoff hopes.
-
NWIndianNation01How is it a good night? It's supposed to rain. Haha. 30% in Ohio means guaranteed rain. Hopefully I'm wrong! Can't wait for this game! Go Indians!

I absolutely agree. I was a center for NW back in the day, and I preferred the shotgun as it just felt more comfortable for me. To my dismay, those were the Simon years where every play started and ended between the Guards so we only went from the gun when it was 3rd and a zip code to go. Repetition IS the key though. I would set up a net behind the kid with a 2x2' hole and have him snap over and over again until he could do 20-30 in a row. A common mistake I also see is that they think they have to launch it back there. Watch all the really good ones at high levels, and it is more of a flip than a snap so that the QB can grab it out of the air instead of trying to catch it. Just my 2 cents. Go figure, someone actually had a topic I know something about. If someone could pleade ask a Drumming or Insurance question, I would be all set!!rrfan;1499313 wrote:I can get better at shooting free throws by shooting a lot of them. I say:
NW 34
ORR 24
(if the DB's figure out how to play the ball)
