Your friends at Youngstown Ursuline!
A touch of class from The U.
Thanks.
Waiting around for the team to get in front of the band for the alma matre was something I always cherished to watch as that is something coach reed started in the 90's. You could see the kids getting interviewed sprint over there to get there in time after the game. Coach Reed will forever leave a lasting impression over the program.
I didnt want the win for the fans. OR the alumni. Or the parents. Or to say that my team won state. Or for the administration. Or even the coaches as I think all but one maybe was on staff for a title before but I was VERY happy to see Chip get one as HC.
I wanted those kids to win so badly. I was a starter on 3 straight state finals teams and the one loss still haunts to this day! Ya think about and ponder that one loss MORE than the two wins combined and just kinda sticks with ya. I could not imagine having that happen 4 times in a row, especially with not having a title to comfort over those losses.
Extremely happy for those kids. Very deserved!
Now it is next kids up. I imagine many of them will be in the weight room within a week starting for next year. 23 seniors depart, and next year will have some growing pains. Look for that #15 to be their QB next year. They start out with Kenton and that columbus team who I think was in the DIII state semis this year so it could be a very rocky start, and with two time defending champion marion local returning pretty much everyone it will be tough for the cavs to make it to the playoffs.
